Ice Cap 660 help!

Helping Paul install his VHO lighting into a canopy. At first try, the lights came on for a second then turned off... would have to unplug then replug ballast and it would happen again. We were advised to turn bulbs a little then try to restart the ballast, but we blew the fuse after a couple times. Purchased new fuses at Home Depot and have now blown out 4 new fuses instantly. Anyone know what could be up with these?

Thanks for the replies Brian and Justin. We installed the MH and put the VHO's on hold til Saturday when we will take the wiring apart and completely rewire... Checked the trouble shooting at the IceCap site so I think it's best to redo the wiring. It came out of an old canopy that ran 2 ballasts together. When splitting the wiring to only run the one ballast, maybe something came loose. Not really sure of the problem because at first we would get the bulbs to fire then shut down, now as soon as we plug the ballast in, the fuse pops. Hopefully rewiring on Saturday will do the trick.

Thanks again,
Ryan

I have an IceCap 660 harness I'm not using and probably never will. My new tank just isn't setup for it.

You are welcome to borrow, buy or trade for it.

It is currently setup for four 4' VHO bulbs.

From IceCap:
I would try our continuity test before a problem develops in the ballast from the multiple attempts.
An Ohm meter can also test your lamps' filaments by checking for continuity between bi-pins on each end of the lamps.
Or call service at 800-742-3227 X 25.

I didn't head this warning and I ended up buring out an internal fuse. My lamps AND wiring were bad and I kept trying to fire the bulbs. Multiple attempts (numerous) landed me with out a ballast for a week. Good thing Ice Cap has such excellent customer service. :D Only problem ever for me and IceCap. User for life :)

IceCap is great.

If they've figured out a way to make money while providing customer support like this I wish they'd share. I (and everyone I know) have to pester most companies to get them to honor their warranties. IceCap will volunteer to fix things that are out of warranty.

Another customer for life.
