Ice Fire eye candy...

Who is fixated? If these are the only ones you ever see, you might try looking harder

wow, just when I think this thread is done.

Green base is also same beautiful. This is stunning species.

I agree corals in general look different and varies depending on tank parameters. However with echinata and speciosa you can clearly see the difference, yet many people sell both as the real deal echinata. That I don't agree with.

Karl personally handed me a frag of his ice fire, and it is no doubt one of the coolest acros out there. :D

isseym328 what is coral in your avatar? very cool.

SDguy - What light / flow do you have your aussie under? I had mine almost directly under my 250W that's 16" from the water and coral is 7-8" below surface and it never get the blue, only tealish and white. And the corallite / branch structure was pretty dense and grow like acropora and not quite elongated / elegant.

(Btw I think it's a hoeki in DreamMachine picture, very nice!)

My 250W 14K DE Phoenix in PFO pendants on Icecaps are only about 8" off the water surface, and the echinata is only about another 10-12" below the surface, so it gets a good amount of light, and high flow. The new growth is also dense on one branch (this branch gets higher flow) while it is more spread out on the other branch (lower flow).

Lower flow branch:

Higher flow branch on the left side of the colony:

And yeah, it looks like a hoek... I'm WAY more jealous of that than the icefire :D

Ryan- The coral in my avatar is an australomussa. It was a little bleached when I took the pic, so now it's more solid red.

I LOVE Hoeks...lost my aussie Hoek a while back =(

Why don't you think it's a hoek? Color is funky, but polyps and coralites and growth tips look close, IMO. At least compared to one I had...

Well for one, the polyps are different shape and color. Also it does not grow thick like a Hoak, very branchy like a slimmer.

Must look different in person... the pics look pretty darn close to me.

So was there a consensus in this thread regarding the green body to the icefire... and how to lighten it? Just nutrient load?

Not a Hoek, the mystery continues :)

Definatly not a hoek as said before, it looks to me to be a milli/pro possibly. It's color is very vivid like all the corals you've posted. If I were to put a name on it I'd consider the palmers blue milli.

Not a Millie or a Prostrata. Hoak was a closer guess.

When I looked at the picture, I was thinking wow that icefire is hot, and the coral on the left is stunning as least to say, I was thinking that is a hoeki, Look to me very similar, from the coralites structure.
Hoeki does have blue & teal color. So what do you think dreammachine is this species?

BTW here is a teal hoeki (of course the one in dreammachine tank is much nicer than this frag :-) maybe there are same species just morphy in different tank condition.

Is echinata from Aussie only or pretty much from everywhere? How about hoeki ?

How's the polyp extension on your echinata SDguy? I dont get much at all... it's still growing tho, I moved it down a little bit so just a tad less light and less flow
