Ich and live rock

Okay so my powder blue tang and yellow eye tang have gotten some ich as of recent.

I'm going to be moving all my live rock over to another tank that I'm just setting up....how long should I met the live rock set so the ich dies?

Ich treatments and corals don't go together. Depending on your tank setup, it may be an option to leave the fish in and instead move your corals to a different tank. Then you treat your display tank for the ich so that your fish have a better habitat. You won't have to rip your aquascape up trying to catch them all either. You will want to keep your corals out of your display tank for 10 weeks because ich parasites and their eggs likely reside on the coral frag bases. There are trade offs to every decision but this is one that I would go with if I had an ich outbreak because my tank is large and my fish are many so I don't have the resources to put all the fish in another appropriate sized tank for that long of a time. Pods and such will be lost but they are easily replaceable down the road.

Drying will not work for LR unless you leave it out long enough to become completely dry all the way through. A day isn't nearly long enough to accomplish that. Also, the rock will no longer be LR. I suggest patience and leaving the tank fishless for awhile. That way the LR is still LR and will cycle up quickly when you start adding fish.

Where does this 10 weeks come from? All the literature I read says 8 weeks.

10 weeks to be 100% sure. 8 weeks is like 97% or something like that.

Ill take those odds at 8 weeks. Especially considering trading frags and what not ... you never really know what you're introducing into your tank unless you QT your corals as well ... which I'll never do.

Well here is an off the wall idea...we do coral dips on our corals....could I dip my rocks in coral dip?
Read up on the 4 stages of ich at http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/ichparasiticdiseases/ss/sbsichlifecycle.htm It will become more clear what you need to do and why. I've outlined for you one possible option with positives and negatives but there are other options with their own positives and negatives. There is no easy solution unfortunately and you should decide soon because marine ich can potentially kill your fish, especially if it gets in their gills. Take action promptly.

IMO, That 3% or so is not worth pulling all your fish out and starting the whole process over.

This is a great read about Cryptocaryon Irritans

Agree to disagree. There are so many possibilities to bring ich in your system whether it be on CUC or corals that I just don't care to risk the 3%. A 97% chance of being ich free after 8 weeks is just odds I'm willing to play.

Ich and live rock

My 0.2 cents

Keep feeding the fish, make sure they eat....

Raise salt 1.26-1.28 and turn up the temp 80-82 degrees consistently...

Obviously not all at once....

Always works for me, don't stress out the fish anymore by moving the rocks out of the tank...

Good luck

Interestingly enough on its own is all references go to other forum posts or about.com. None of scientific authority. Does the extra 2 weeks eliminate the 0.3%?
