ich and main tank????

I have an outbreak of ich in my main tank can u use hypo in there if I remove inverts and coral???? is hypo ok for live rock

Wouldn't it just be easier to remove all the rock and get the fish out and into a hospital tank?

I'm not sure if pods and all the critters that live in LR can handle hypo. If they can't you might have massive die off and cause a cycle. I probably wouldn't risk it on my DT. Now that ich is in your DT (and it probably always has been) it can't be removed without being fishless for 6 weeks. It is however normal for your tank to live with ich, its similar to the way shots work on us humans. We are injected with a small amount of the virus so that we build an immunity towards it. If you can't get your fish out into hypo your best bet is to just keep your water perfect and make sure everyone keeps eating. You could try using garlic extreme soaked into your food as it helps with loss of appetite.

so weekly water changes good feedings with garlic and hope for the best because there is not way I am gonna remove almost 300lbs of rock out of that system and have a place for it... I have had it before but all fish were in a qurantine tank i used hypo for about 8 weeks and it was finally gone now they have been in my new system for over 3 months and my sailfin tang is showingsigns of it

this is a nasty disease and i don't want to lose my fish to it but I am nervous I spent alot of time and money trying to get this tank pristine... In a panic mode OMG and I know I am not gonna get those fish out of there too much rock has anyone left there fish in there systems and just rode it out and prayed for the best

Ick is in yours and everybody else tanks. Fish become vulnerable when water parameters stress them. You want to find out what was it that got out of whack. Water test. But whatever the problem was you should be able to remedy it with a 25% water change, and then weekly water changes for the next 4-5 weeks.
Also you have to keep them eating. Nows the time to give them what they want. Good food will give them the strength to fight it off. IMO people stress fish to death trying to remove rock work chase a weak fish around a tank them put them in a smaller aquarium (quarenteen tank). Then they sit around scratching their head wondering why this didn't work. Ugh
Good water! Good food! Easy as that.

And yes this has worked for me and many others. I always like to find out what was it that stressed the fish in the first place. Thats why you should water test. So you can prevent it next time.

I will do some test and a water cahnge tomorrow I do have a uv steralizer on my tank I know it doesnt help much but some say it helps
a little i just bought today alot of rich food for them too eat formulas one and two some krill and some cyclpeez I forgit to get some garlic which I will to soak their food I hope all will be well

Water change today if possible. I wouldn't wait. My entire tank had ick. My hippo looked like someone throw a bag of powdered sugar at him. Not anymore I lost no one. You may also want to carefully increase water temp a couple degrees as this speeds up the ick process. This depends however on what your tank temp is currently. I would shoot for 84-85 degrees. The key is frequent water changes. 25% then 10% weekly.

ok u say frequent water changes I do about 30 to maybe 60 gallons a week already should i vacuum the substrate a little too I dont have much maybe 2 inches in the front of the tank... how did u not lose any fish did u do water changes once a week I have a 180 gallon system

I too have a 180. My fish had ich also. I must of stress my fish out when moving the rocks around. I did weekly water change. Check my water. Feed then good and it was gone in three weeks. Dont stress them out. I only use instant nutrient brand food and san fransico brand freeze dried food. All my water or mixed three to four days in advance just to be sure it matches my tank. Many believe quarantine and hypo works. I personally think hypo only make the fish weaker. Hypo only makes your fish looks pale.

Ajolie30 My lfs i goto has recommended to me a produst called No Sick Fish.. the product is very expensive and is reef safe. Im also dealing with ich atm too and trying todecide how to treat. if i cant get the fish to QT im going to try that product. The Guy at the LFS used it in his 400 display and didnt lose 1 fish with a bad outbreak and none of his inverts died off either. Only thing package says is may cause some algea and soft corals to not grow as fast during treatment.

I will never understand the feed the fish well and keep water quality high and let the fish live with a parasite method. If you have ich in your tank remove the fish and treat them in a qt.While fish can live with ich dont fool yourself into thinking its gone. Also not all fish tanks have ich.If you qt and treat your fish before you put them in your tank you wont have it any more.Fish can also live with internal parasites without dieing but it doesnt mean they are healthy.Reef safe medications dont work so unless you have already bought the no sick fish dont waste your money.

So you ?

1. Remove all rock
2. Chase sick fish around
3. Stir the poop out of your substrate, fish love inhaling that stuff.
4. Remove all fish putting entire live stock in a significantly smaller tank
5. Now they are our of their usual environment sick and stressed.
6. Bumping into each other =more stress.
7. Meanwhile fighting over the lone piece of pvc you chucked in there for shelter.
8. And now for the hypo.... this should be fun
9. Soon to be chased around again
10. And put back in the same tank which by the way still has ick present if not it soon will.

Some how this doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

Color me nutty

Yes remove the fish and treat in a seperate qt.The only way ich will get back in your system if you treat the fish with copper or quinine sulfate and leave the tank fallow for 8-11 weeks is if you dont treat future fish in a qt which should have been done in the first place. What your suggesting is not a treatment it is ignoring the problem in hopes it goes away.

Well then I ignored my problem with weekly water changes and a strong diet and it went away.

Good luck with yours.

I'm with Rockymtreefer. Ich doesn't "go away" part of its life cycle is to reproduce in the sand/substrate and will appear to be gone. Also, white dots are not the parasite, rather they are sores. No sores doesn't mean a healthy fish.

I know this is the current belief. They once thought the world was flat.

Wanna buy an undergravel filter?

My ick must still be reproducing (3 months later) Cause I haven't seen hide nor hare.

You'll all come around. Matter of time.

As for ich I treat with copper in a quarantine tank. I must agree with your point though, what we live by today may be considered folly tomarrow.
