Ich problem!!

my purple and blue tangs have ich. i think my black clown i bought from petco bought it in(figuers). i think the black clown still has it but isnt as bad. i bought garlic extreem yesterday to see if it will work, have my fingers crossed. any other ideas except a fresh water dip?

The garlic has always worked for me. However it is like a 6 week daily process to kill of the life cycle.

Garlic alone will not cure or kill ich. The garlic just makes them want to eat. I had ich pretty bad a couple of months ago. I used a product call vita-chem and zoe. In fact to this day I still put it in their food. I haven't had a problem since. I also used a UV sterilizer but you really don't need to use it. All the UV does is kill the free floaters the pass by the light. In fact I have taken the UV off my tank and it will collect dust.

i was just at aquatic reef yesterday and me and one of the owners are talking about ich since i had so many tang in my tank. he showed me a product that is new(forget the name) to cure and kill ich in your tank.the only thing is it is very expensive. i think it is 60 or 70 a bottle that is half an ounce size. try calling him at 847-426-5003. i also went to the other area LFS and didn't find any. was gonna go to Birds and beast and check what meds they have but didn't get the chance.

Careful with meds in a reef. Any meds.

If you search on "seachem recipe" with my username -- ostrow, you'll find a couple of threads where I carefully spell out a food recipe that worked well for me. UV also important. If you can't QT, or even if you do, the Seachem recipe is truly excellent.

i only feed my fish every 2 or 3 days, in days between should i just dose the tank with extreem garlic? would that help?

yea i have 2 cleaner shrimp, i bought "no ick"a few days back and i just bought rods food from aqatic reef today. i spent alot of money on these and havnt had the best luck with tangs. for some reason my tangs always get ich. i bought a uv sterilizer and am holding back. waiting to see if the other stuff works.

Well.....I don't think there's no short-cuts. Just stick with Rod's Food, hopefully your shrimp can cut down the ick to a minimum, I wouldn't recommend putting medication into the tank, and water changes are good too. I think patience is key.

I'd order the Seachem Focus and Metronidazole and add it to the Rod's Food, with additional garlic and selcon, especially selcon!

Why not hook up the uv? You bought it. Your tangs have ick. Hook it up!

Suliaman007 - I had a major ICK outbreak about 5 months ago. I love my fish so much that I went all out, sparing no expense and time, in finding a cure for it. I have tried Hyposalinity, Kick-Ick, copper, Garlic extreme, fresh garlic, etc.. You name it, I probably have tried it. Let me give you a few options that worked for me.

Option 1: Use Kick-Ick and apply 3oz/25g ( Instruction recommend 2oz/25g but didn't work for me). Use UV immediately to kill off any free swimming ones and leave the UV running.

Option 2: If you have the time and a spare tank. Remove your fish and treat them with Hyposalinity for 6 weeks. Leave your main tank fish free for 6 weeks.

Use Garlic would help your existing fish to fight off the ICK, but it would not kill all your ICK in your tank. Even if your existing fish are cured, as soon as you introduce new fish, your new fish will most likely get ICK and spread it to others.

Some people don't think UV is necessary. But for me it is absolutely necessary if you hate ICK. Before I have a UV hook up in my tank, I get ICK when introduce new fish. I just don't want to deal with ICK anymore, so now I have a UV on every tank. I have been adding new fish left and right to my many tanks and never have any ICK problems. Even if your new fish came in with ICK, the UV would help greatly in preventing ICK to spread to other fish.

Current Tanks: 46 bow, 50-60 lbs of live sand, 70-80 lbs of live rock. jbj 96x2 compact. nova backpack refugium. CPR backpack protein skimmer.
is this the tank your referring to?If it is you may be stressing the tangs causing the to get the ich.Sorry but IMO that tank is just to small for tangs

Unfortunately none of those treatments will eliminate ich very fast. Copper will rid the fish of paracites in about two days. You would have to leave the fish in copper for about 10 days but the visable paracites will be gone in 24 hours. Some fish will not live more than a couple of days with ich so long term treatments, although may work may leave the fish dead before the treatment works.
Most fish imported are in a copper solution, most pet shops keep fish in copper. (In NY anyway) If it were not for copper there would not be a salt water fish hobby.
Copper in the correct dose will not harm the fish.
I have been using it for about 40 years and some of those fish lived over 15 years one lived to 18 until I killed it by accident.
