That guy...
The anthias had sores/rotting on the sides. The tang has spots and some rotting on it's caudal fin. I've started copper and melafix treatment. But, I may need to try something different. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is a starry blenny in the tank but because of his natural pattern it's hard to tell if he is sick. They were bought at a LFS at the same time and have been in qt for 27 days now.

So these guys are in a qt? Do you know if they shared any water with a chromis? It's hard to tell but the anthias looks like it has classic uronema markings on its side.

I agree. The timeline is also consistent. (The LFS almost certainly runs copper in their system).

I doubt Paraguard would impact uronema. If we are correct about diagnosis, this is the worst parasite to incur because it does not have a obligate fish host as part of the life cycle. You can try Chloroquine Phosphate but there is no marine biology literature to support this as treatment of choice.

Who makes that product? Where do I get it?

I bought it. Should be here in 2 days hope my fish make it that long. :twitch: Thanks Newsmyrna80 and Steve you guys are the best! :wavehand:

Happy to help:beer: You could try a FW dip to knock back the parasite. It won't eradicate it but it will buy time until meds get there. Also do a water change to keep parasite population down.

How long does a FW dip last? I just drop them in RODI water? I just did a water change 2 days ago.

There has been a preliminary in vitro study that shows that CP kills Uronema:

"Preliminary in vitro study

Two very basic qualitative in vitro tests were conducted to test the efficacy of chloroquine phosphate as a potential treatment against the ciliate Uronema marinum (Hemdal 2010). Uronema is a fairly common ciliate that is difficult to treat as these parasites can burrow into the fish's skin and therefore isolate themselves from many external bath treatments such as formalin, copper and hyposalinity. These informal tests show that this drug is effective at killing Uronema when it is used as a bath, but it is unknown if enough of the drug would taken up by the fish in order to raise the level in the blood to therapeutic levels.

In the first test, the body of a small parrotfish fish that had succumbed to a Uronema infection was cut in half. One section of the fish was placed in tank water, the second section was placed in tank water dosed with Chloroquine at 40 mg/l (a higher than normal dose). After six hours, the number of Uronema in the treated sample had been markedly reduced, while the numbers in the untreated sample had actually increased.

In a second test, the bodies of two green chromis that had died from acute Uronema infections were exposed to chloroquine at 35 mg/l. A marked reduction of the numbers of the ciliate was seen within three hours, and only one surviving Uronema was seen on the body of one of the fish after eight hours. Using deceased fish for these bio-assays is problematic in that there is difficulty obtaining specimens "as-needed" and room temperature tests longer than 24 hours cannot be performed as the fish flesh begins to putrefy."

Chloroquine: A "New" Drug for Treating Fish Diseases

The question is if it also kills it on a living fish. My guess would be yes. The real question is if it will kill uronema inside a living fish as that would be required to treat advanced infections. Again, I would suspect yes.
While it hasn't been studied and proven or published in a scientific study I would say it's your best bet against Uronema besides formalin dips (and those only work for external infections either).

They are relatively easy but can be very intimidating for the human. Using ro/di water adjust the temp and pH to match the water the fish is currently in. Fully aerate the water, I typically aerate an hour per gallon using an air stone. Have a timer (I use my phone) and if you are not performing the dip near the qt have a container of saltwater matching the qt next to the dip. Put the fish in the dip and watch him. Do not leave the fish alone! Try to keep him in for about 3 minutes but if he starts flipping take him out immediately. But sinking to the bottom is normal. You may also want to have something to put over the container to prevent the fish from jumping out. Remove the fish and place in the container of saltwater then place back into the qt.
Easy;)
Again, this is not a cure. It'll just give the fish a little relief until the meds get there.
