no its a parapercis sp.of the group cylindrica ... i had this week lot of contacts by email with a prof. dr.hsuan Ching Ho of the national museum marine Biology and aquarium in Taiwan... he is doing taxonomy of this fish group... and thats what he said:
copy of his email:
Hi Miranda,
My understanding is that you have only one specimen in your aquarium, right? With a series of your excellent photos, we still can describe it as new. Yes, you are right, the extreme high first dorsal fin is the key character to separate it from other congeners. Usually I am more conserved to recognize a new species, but this one is quite clear. However, it needs to be very careful to prepare the specimen, it will be a solo holotype.
My question is are you willing to sacrifice this fish and use it to describe as a species new to science? This is very important for conservation because we don't know how big the population is and a formal description will call the attention from other people. If we never do so, they will be treated as other names (in this case schauinslandi) and sold in the market without any consideration.
We described Parapercis moki based on only one specimen because it was collected 30 years ago and nothing similar was collected after that.
