ID needed, pest?

This ID request is near worthless without a picture (camera broken), but maybe someone has an idea for me. I have a bunch of these little guys in the tank and am wondering if they're good/bad/indifferent. To start, they are inside a verry small tube. About 1-2mm in diameter. Tube is brown. The tube starts as a very small spiral on the LR about 4-5mm in diameter, then the tube turns 90 degrees and goes straight vertical away from rock. The tubes are currently around 3mm vertical from rock. From the tubes, thin hairs extend. Mostly later on in the evening, even when lights are on. I also see them lots in the morning. It looks like long thin hairs about 4-5 inches long. What are they? Any ideas? I've tried searching the net, but without a name, it's tough to start. I have one rock with mushrooms that the shrooms don't seem to be happy, and am wondeing if it's these tube things or maybe still effects of the condy anem I had 3 weeks ago. Ideas?

I would love to know the answer to this. I have a literal ton of vermatid snails in my tank (only I never see anything come out).

I guess my questions would be.

Cause?
Pest?
Removal Solutions?

yeah, vermetid snails. They are harmless but can be unsightly and proliferate to the point where they clog pumps and plumbing. If you are having a population explosion it's usually due to overfeeding. They are pretty easy to pick off with your finger or a pair of tweezers, but be careful because the tubes can be very sharp.
