ID of anemone

Hi guys!

Can anyone help me to get a name for this Anemone? I work in a saltwater shop, so I think I've seen the first 1000 anemones, but never one like this. I've also sent the pict. to some coral experts on Fiji and Indonesia, but they couldn't help me.

As you maybe can se on the picture, it has a lot of small polyps, which it closes, if you touch it. Sometimes it also takes up some small white flowers which look just like aiptasias. It usually does it, if I've putted food in the water.

I can also tell, tat it burns a lot! You get black spots on your hand, if you touch it.

I was stung by one I had while in my teens, over 15 years ago. To this day if I get an allergic reaction I'll sometimes get welts in the places where that anemone stung me. They are nasty creatures and make sure whoever buys it is aware of how potent they are.
 
Yea, they are nasty creatures, but also very beautiful and interesting creatures.
For 2 years ago, I got burned by an anemone (Actinodendron sp.).
I had touched this species hundreds of times before without any reaction, but this one burned me a lot! My right hand was invalid for 18 month, and looked NASTY! The doctor said that they couldn’t do any thing about it. They told me that it only would stop if I quitted this hobby. But come on it is also my job, I couldn’t just quit.

I still have some eczema on my hands, but at least I can use them now.
 
i got stung on my forearm/bicep by a 22" H. Magnifica that left welts for about two months along with a slight rash... and it was very painful/burned... but wow, that had to hurt!! good to know your just about healed up... the things we will endure for this hobby(or job for the matter)!!
 
I work at an LFS also and have something similar with my hands. My boss said it is "fish handler's disease" but thats kind of vague when you read on it.

I went to the doctor and he first gave me Triamcinolone Acetonide ointment made by Fougera. This helps to heal, but wasn't clearing up the area. It was spreading. Touching saltwater still hurt a LOT.

I went back to the doctor and he gave me Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream USP made by actavis.

I have to apply frequently but is VERY SLOWLY healing. If I don't apply the cream to my finger it breaks out again and I also get eczema. The doctor said it was more of a fungal infection because of the redness he was seeing.

Maybe try asking your doctor about these to help get relief on your fingers?

Hope this helps, I will never touch any anemone that looks like that just to be safe!
 
I have had a rash on my hand for the last 7 year. It began when I started cooking. I am curently a chef and I have a salt water tank. The dermatologist told me that I have the worst profession and the worst hobby for what I have on my hands. I have used many creams and ointments. I am curently taking an antibiotic called cephalexin. I took this picture with my cell phone just a minute ago. The sad thing is...this is my hand looking good!!!

Wow I wouldn't think chefs would have problems with their hands like that :( I'm sure the saltwater doesn't help either.

Best of luck taking care of that, fortunately mine is only on 3 fingers and goes away the more I apply the cream I have
 
Hey Magdalan, do you work with a lot of lettuce/vegetables/salad type dishes? If so, that's probably what it's from. The pesticides they spray on vegetables, especially lettuce, will do that.
Way way back in high school I worked at a produce dept. in a grocery store where we had to cut heads of lettuce all the time. Three of working there had the exact same reaction on our hands.

Only thing you can do to get rid of it is wear gloves or buy organic/pesticide free vegetables.

When I do work with fresh vegetables (which I personally don't do often) I wear gloves. Thank you for the suggestion, but I know that's not it.
