I got him friday night after I went to drop off the BTA that the LFS brought in thinking it was a ritteri. So I picked this guy up as I found him half way up the glass attached in the store.

He is a half dollar size, so very small. I went to put him into my tank after acclimating and he was so fricken happy he attached to my finger while putting him up on the pedestal. I couldn't believe it and he was not easy to get off. So once I did, I put him up high on the right side of my tank on top of a pedestal. I know he is not a GIG or a haddoni as he does not have purple spots at all on his base and his tentacles are longer. He is half bleached out atleast, but I know I can bring him back. He has a solid brown base. What does everyone think? These pictures were right after I fed him and his tentacles are also super sticky. Also I had to put him in a egg crate cage as my small male clown thought he was awesome and came out of the Gig anemone to place in him the first night.

Thanks
Conrad

I could be wrong but it looks to be another BTA. The base is a perfect match. The tentacles are short but it happens when they are starved for light and food, which goes with the bleached condition. And of course green is a very normal color for them.

I will have to try and get some better pictures tonight. I got him for next to nothing. So I will just keep him and move him if hes not a mag. Not sure what he is yet as he doesn't exactly remind me of the BTA when I had him and this guy is right near the K3 powerhead I had and hasn't moved an inch since I put him in the tank along with being 6-8" from the surface of the water. Maybe I can turn off the flow for a while and see if he spreads out better. Last time I did though he really didn't change

Alright. heres some better photos of the top of him. The base I guess you really don't need a better photo, but if it will make a difference I can try and take one, it just seems to be harder to get a photo of it again. His mouth sticks outwards it seems and his tentacles don't taper it seems when I look close at his tentacles.... He also absolutely loves flow and is high up in the tank on top of a rock as you can see with nothing surrounding him. Please help me ID him:spin3::spin2:

I'm gonna put my vote in for BTA. It's unhealthy (short tentacles, puffy mouth) but I had one that was the spitting image of that guy. It will likely hold that position until it gets healthier, then crawl into a crevice or hole in your rockwork like regular BTA. If it gets worse, it may eventually crawl off into total darkness. I've had BTAs go both ways. :(

Well it has ate a few times already and doesn't let food go at all. Its sticky and its def. locked down on the spot its in.... So I think that thats good news. I do have a egg crate surrounding the rock with a top, so if he moves that he doesn't get to go far. It was mainly cause my male clown fell in love with him the first night he was in the tank and is way too big for it.

Anyone else opinions? Or is a GBTA?

I want to say mag a LITTLE bit more than bta. the mouth shape(in a couple of pics) and coloration reminds me more of a mag. the tentacles have white tips and are straighter which also leans towards mag. this is one of the more difficult IDs i think.

healthier nem=better ID

I'm leaning a little more towards mag, but it's a tough one. Keep feeding it and give it proper light. Once it gets a little more healthy, we should be able to tell better.

The way you describe the tips (hard to tell in the pic) definitely sounds like a mag. Also, the fact it is staying put on top of a rock, also points to a mag. I'm strongly leaning toward magnifica. As you probably know, mags need high light, good water flow and very good water conditions. Nothing makes them more annoyed than nitrates. It won't kill them, but they will begin to wander and not look their best as compared to nitrates at undetectable.

yea, BTA's my guess.

Not sure if it's a Mag or something else but it sure has way more tenticles around the perimeter then my old GBTA had. Also in the second picture above you can see a couple of forked tenticles. My GBTA never had them and started out around that small but I know that Mag's will fork like that so maybe a Mag......

Yea I'm starting to swing over to H. Magnifica myself. The base looks much thicker and the tentacles are much more numerous than I had thought. Good job on the progress BTW.

with a mouth like that, I'm a lot more confident it's mag. it should take about a month for its tenticles to react to the light in the classic upright position.
