Ok I just found these today. They caught my eye and I've never seen anything like them before. The tentacles are very loose and wave around a lot, they are brownish (but pearly) with black dots at the end of each tentacle. The fish store owner said he'd only seen them once before a long time ago. He also said he'd only ever seen them growing on tube worm casings. Here is a close up pic:

indeed. they remind me of the yellow polyps, they kind of sway like that and have long tentacles, but the similarities end there. What is the species on the yellow polyps?

awesome. This looks like a healthy little colony too, hopefully it grows, these are just like alien looking zoas. I just took some more pictures. I'll be sure to do my part in making these less "rare"

:D

I submitted them to zoaid.com

I suggested the name master mind flayer paly.

this is a throw back to any of the nerds out there whoever played rogue, nethack or slashem :D . You guys will know what I'm talking about

I figure they have some photosynthetic abilities since they are brown and not clear white like in all the photos I've seen. There are several patches of them on the piece I got. I'm only going to feed some of the patches to see how much they depend on food. If it turns out they are like yellow polyps but rely on food to spread this would be an ideal situation to prevent spreading.

thanks for the info letmegrow
