Id please

some sort of macro grows to about this size then dies. A few weeks later does the same thing. I cant find it on the net. Any ideas? sorry about picture quality im using an iphone

That looks like the ancanthophora spicifera I purchased at gulf coast ecosystems recently.

Thanks for the reply Ferret. Ive been looking at it on the net and am confident its not ancanthophora. Its quite a course algae with fern like appearance. each branch comes from a single stalk its bright purple and as i said seems to die off and regrow.

Most likely a type of branching coralline algae. When it dies off does it turn white?
