HI Everyone.

I bought a new anemone last night and they told me it was a lta...and it doesn't look like the one i have in my other tank. So untill my husband gets home with the camera i will have to try to describe it....

It has a beige foot and the oral disk is a pinky colour. Tentacles are long and at the bottom of them they are the same pinky colour and then go green. And the very tips almost look like a florescent green. But on the underside of the oral disk it looks like a a string of beads all the way around.

Very pretty. Very big( about 10 inches already and only been in there 16 hours) foot is secure under a rock and buried in the sand to the oral disk and it ate last night.

Lights are now 12, 39 watt t5's with ice cap reflectors.

Thanks everyone

Lisa

Okay so here are the pics....

The first 2 are the new one. The other 2 are just 2 that i took of my other lta and my clown....
She looked kinda cute and snuggled in there:)

based upon the beige color of the base you described, and the appearance of the anemone, id say you have a heteractis crispa or leathery sea anemone.

its possible its a long tenticle anemone, but...most likely not.

It actually looks quite M. doreensis based off the pics. See if you can get a shot under the oral disk...verrucae specifically.

Purple one is M. doreensis. The verrucae are visible through the oral disk.

The first one would need a shot under the edge of the oral disk......

It is a M. doreensis from the pictures and from what you said above.

I can't get a decent pic under the oral disk...It keeps making him mad:)

So the only thing that is making me a little confused is the ring of bead looking things around the very edge and underside of its oral disk as the purple one does not have that on the underside.

But i guess whatever it is it is happy and content and it has been 24 hours and Nemo has just found his home:)

Didn't take to long at all. About 20 mins ago and now he is snuggling in it and sucking on the tentacles.....lol

I retract what I said. Mis-understand what you wrote.
Use a stick or you hand to lift the oral plaet of the anemone and tank a picture.
It does not look like an M. doreensis from the picture alone.

Okay after much trying here are the only 2 pics i could get of the underside of the oral disk. Everytime i would touch him he would jerk down and close up...
Hope this helps in the id....

Good effort on the pictures, but still not very clear. The verrucae, from what little I can see, look fairly prominent, suggesting H. crispa to me. Also the lengthier outer tentacles (as opposed to inner ones) also suggest it.

What may help is to show you my H. crispa's verrucae:

If someone else can give a decent underside shot of M. doreensis, you can easily see the difference for yourself.

I would say that is it....I can see the little bead looking verrucae around the edge of the oral disk on yours..If that is what i am seeing. And is that what my purple one is. It does not have the extra row of verracue around the edge of the disk.

If that is it is it looking healthy?
Since i got it it is digging itself lower and lower into the sand. Funny to watch as he scrunches down and a big puff of sand comes out. It is eating and the clown is hosting away.

Thanks

Another good characteristic to look for is whether or not the anemone is tightly clinging to adjacent rocks. Those warty, raised verrucae can adhere quite strongly.

It doesn't look like the purple one is H. crispa. I think the original id of M. doreensis is correct.

Yep it is very stuck to the rocks around it. Seems very content now that the clown is hosting it. Eats we'll and is getting more sticky. It was sticky when i got it but no excessivley as he was just shipped in that morning(yep i know taking a chance)...

What was really sad was that this lfs has about 80 of these anemones that were shipped to him all crammed in on top of each other. 80 of them in 3 50 gallon tanks.

What a waste:(

Thanks for the id's those everyone.

I appreciate all the help.
