ID requested shell creature

Got a little plug of zoas from the lfs, and at first nothing special other than I liked the look of them. Suddenly one day my powder brown tang takes a nip at what I thought was a dead shell or fossil looking thing and it moved. It not only opens like a clam, mussel etc... but appears to lift up on a second hinge. Looks like it's attracted itself backwards to the rock so I can't see it that well.

Any help appreciated.

It's a mussel of some sort they move up and down with they're Bisal gland which is attaché to the rock. They'll live or a while in captivity but not a real long time. You can feed it some phytoplankton of you want

Thanks for the help. I was pretty sure it was some type of mussel, just not which one specifically. It just so happens I woke up this morning and he has moved off the zoas and is parked next to my star polyps a move of about 10". Pretty neat.

Yeah, it's an Ark Clam. The most common on Florida/Caribbean rock is the Turkey Wing, but there are a bunch of different species from the Indo-Pacific. They are harmless of course.

I agree it's an ark clam.I've got one in mine and he just sits there that's all.you have nothing to worry about
