It just piped up over the last few months.

It's ugly as home made sin. But I dont know what it is. Is soft like a mushroom. And has a mouth in the middle.

Looks like the standard green/beige button polyps that I have growing all over my tank. They seem mostly harmless other than the fact that they can potentially overgrow things. Oh, and in the chemical warfare battle between button polyps and some nearby xenias, the xenias lost. Zoas don't seem to mind them though, and whatever they're growing around in your tank looks too tall to care about them.

If you were talking about the brown mass to the upper right of the zoas, it is a form of algae that can be a pain. Because it plates, it can cover rock completely and isn't easy to remove. I've got urchin that eat it, but haven't found much else. A friend had it and was able to get rid of it by bringing nutrients in line (he used Prodibio). I've not had that luck yet, but my population seems to be diminishing.

yea , its a pain I battled it for quite a while pulled rock and scrubbed it off. It comes off in sheets ,took me a while to I.D. it . Nip it in the bud now . I made the mistake of watching it for awhile . Thinking that it was interesting and a natural phenomena but pretty soon it was everywhere
