ideas for stopping the oil spill

it's easy to forget (or not comprehend) what a huge disaster the current Gulf oil spill is. Just imagine what a few ounces of light sweet crude would do to your reef aquarium!

They did a piece on the evening news where people were suggesting ideas for stopping (or containing) the spill.

People also had lots of creative ideas for limiting the slick.

There might be some creative suggestions here on RC as well.

Everyone and anyone reading this is welcome to post their idea no matter how crazy it might seem.

this is not my idea, but I thought somewhere in the middle east they had some kind of ship that had a machine on it to suck up the oil and deposit it in some kind of on-board reservoir. It also seems like BP is not willing to ask for help but has been given many recommendations

I seen on TV where some people have said use explosives to blow the well shut..Some say it would work but BP will not do that because they will then lose the well :-/

My favorite today was seeing that British BP CEO saying..This is not that big of a deal...What !?!?!?

i also heard that the oil is now in the loop current that will\ swing it down into the FL keys. ive been watching cnbc news every night to see the latest updates

I thought I saw somethign regarding some tar balls they found and were running some tests to figure out if they came from the gulf spill or not. I think they were found on the florida gulf coast

It is too strange that Obama recently announced support for additional off-shore drilling and then this disaster. It is likely sabotage from enemies who stand to lose $$ if we drill. I read there has not been a blow-out like this since the early 1980's. I doubt we are getting the whole truth, how could the govt protect all the off shore wells from underwater sabo? Anyway these guys sure are moving slow to fix.

why they didnt drop a bomb or dynamite on the hole and cave it in..... since they said they were going to drill a connecting hole (that would take 3 months) to it anyway to cap the hole and start syphoning anyway.......

I saw that on the news this AM, and it looks really promising for the cleanup.

I just hope someone's able to cut through all of the government red tape to implement a solution like this before too much damage occurs.

Allows for removal of the solid without damage as far as I'm aware and is still useable afterwards. Don't see how they could go wrong with this approach.

Whole thing is just sickening. The government should step in and do somethin. Let the navy nuke the whole , anything. then they should send bp a really absurd bill for it, one that will put them out of business

what is the logic behind using explosives? wouldn't that just risk releasing trillions of gallons of oil all at once by making the hole huge and gaping? I don't get it.

it boggles my mind that when something goes wrong with these wells the solution is experimentation. it's mindboggingly stupid.

Just a cool FYI. The orange oil booms that are used to catch the oil floating on the surface of the water are made right here in Orchard Park at one of my customers.

Also, the idea about setting it on fire isnt a great one. Think of all the heavy black smoke that would enter the atmosphere killing more birds and doing more harm then good. Im sure there are rooms of people thinking up ideas of what to do.

Every morning I read the updates. BP is also in the process of trying to cap their liability. Why in this world, especially in the United States of America is the government doing absolutely nothing about it. $$$$$$$. I grew up with very little and have survived many things in life that should have shut me down. I grew from it, I learned from it. I have a life now that I would never want to change. Why can't these people get over their greed and evil and actually act human? Since when has (we'll use 'GOD' as a general statement) let humans get like this. Absolute filthy, rotten, out of touch with life people. Just like Tony Hayward.....

End of Rant. No more will be said.

We need to send some deep sea robots down there to cork it as best as they could. BP is currently only sucking out 1/5th of it. So for every gallon they use to make money 4 gallons is getting out into the water. Not many people think of it but our endangered Manatees are at risk as well. Their estuaries might be demolished by these slicks. So, CORK THE BUGGER AND GET BP OUT!
