identifying SPS to species

I must agree.

There was a time I researched coral taxonomy and classification, in efforts to better identify corals. A couple of really oddball and rare corals (at that time) I received from Indo Pacific really sparked my interest. After wasting countless nights reading some of published text by both Veron and Borneman and getting help from Eric Borneman, I gave up. In fact at that time Eric mentioned that Im wasting my time.

There are simply too many variables that come into play when trying to ID some corals. Identifying captive corals, especially grown from frags is almost a sure waste of time.

Yeah I have had some conversations with Eric on Id.Not just sps but many lps witch is why I dont understand how Id ing to the sp. can be used or even if it should be.

Anyone tell the difference between Gonipora lobata vs Stokesi,as I was told its impossible with the human eye alone.Whole host of others hammers ,frogspawns, torches favia,,,
