If Help is needed

Just got power back on here today. My tank is fine...got a generator on Thursday morning and ran it during the day and turned it off at night. I only have fish and cleanup crew though.

My husband is a deputy with Madison County and he said the damage is unreal. It made me feel guilty that I was concerned about my fish when other people lost everything. I don't know any of you personally but glad everyone seems to be ok. I was concerned for CRA when I heard their area was hit. I'm sad to see that they had so much damage. I too hope that they are ok. If anyone has an update on them that would be great.

Hey y'all. Hadn't been on here in ages, but wanted to check in on everyone. We lost both of our nems, the maroon clown pair and we had gotten a scopas tang, a 6 line and a mandarin dragonette (that we'd had for about a year, and had gotten pretty fat!) as well as all of the ricordea-type softies and i'm not sure, but it looks like all the euphylia too--I haven't pulled them yet, they're REALLY retracted, but the water is warming and the skimmer is running like crazy, so I don't want to give up hope--they're the only thing left.

Anyone know how to tell when an anthelia colony is dead? I have a large colonly(about the size of a football) that is looking pretty rough....but i dont want to pull it out if there is a chance one or two heads might have survived?

Just run your skimmer and keep an eye on your water. I wouldn't remove any coral inless you know its dead.. Even then sometimes things can come back.. If your having water issues then I would remove anything that looks like its on its way out.... FWIW the old smell check works wonders lol

I'm with you Tim. I lost everything but a few polyps. Time to start over. Is John going to try and rebuild CRA? I'd rather buy stuff through him and help him out.

I definitely agree with that. Remove anything that can foul the water and let the remainder recuperate.

It's so sad to see all the destruction. It's such a tragedy. I am sad to see CRA destroyed, but I am glad that John, Tommy, and Henry are all okay.

We got power back on yesterday. I had two Koralia 4's running on my 180 with marine batteries on Reilly's boat. The tank looks fine and no one is missing. Thank goodness to a power inverter and marine batteries.

Unfortunately my 400W power inverter broke on the second day and I had to scramble to find another one. By that time all the shops were out of inverters, but luckily Reilly's fishing buddy loaned me a small one which could run just these two powerheads.

Under the circumstance I had to sacrifice my 8 years old 15 gallon reef in the kitchen. I moved whatever I can to my 180, but I saw a whole bunch of dead pods later on in the 15 gallon tank. On the other hand, my FW planted tank did not have any circulation but came through unscathed.

If you have stuff that looks bad but might survive, you could move it to a Rubbermaid tub with a circulation (pump or airstone) and small heater. You might save it, but you won't risk the whole tank.

I have extra equipment that can be loaned out. I'm sure others do as well, just ask.

ZOMG! i was just sitting here (staring forlornly at my tank...) and i see this white flash swim by!

a goby had gotten over the top and was swimming back and forth in the overflow. ALIVE!!! that was such a welcome shock!

Hardimanm,
Anthelia is tough. I had a couple rocks of it disappear down to just the mat and it all came back. That stuff is tough. If you lose it just let me know and I'll hook you up with more to restart.

CRA shop.

Damn, so sad to see that. Good guy and a good shop! And to think, I live less than 5 miles from there................

I just reset my 15G tank. The water is still cloudy.

It looks so empty, but it has to cycle before I can move some fish and corals into it.
Amazingly, a small cerith like snail (periwinkle?) is still alive in the sand. I washed the sand a few days ago with straight tap water, too.

I realize it is after the fact, but I can recommend this generator that I picked up at Sam's Club between the first and second wave of the storm. It is a bit pricey for the capacity, but makes up for it in other features. It is very quiet; while on my back porch, I could not hear it over my neighbors generator. It is also very light, it can be carried with one hand. At 25% capacity, the one gallon tank can run for around 9 hours. I ran my tank and alternated a deep freezer and refrigerator off of it.
