If one melts do they all?

Guys,

I just got some Zoa/Paly frags from an LFS and I just acclimated and dropped them in the tank. I noticed one of the polyps on one of the frags looks like it is melting. Will they all go if one goes or is it also common for it to be isolated?

I have always experienced them all going if left alone. I would frag away the infected area to save the rest of the colony.

if your really concerned about that "ONE " polyp then you can frag it to save the rest if you want. I've done that to multiple frags before.

I just got them in the tank today and the lights are still off. How long do you usually give it before deciding. It looks like it is melting but a little hard to tell at the moment. How long should I wait before hacking it off?

If you notice anything wrong I would just take it off unless you only have like a 3 polyp frag, in that case I would wait a couple days to see if it got better. If its fairly large, just wack it off, you'll barely notice it missing.

Ok, I'll take a pic and post it in just a little while when the lights come on so we can get a good look at it. I will post, then we can make a decision.

I would wait first to make sure it is really melting. I got a small frag of some zoas that was only 3 or 4 polyps and after a few days they started melting. I was sure they were all goners but one polyp didn't melt. It stayed closed for a week and now a few weeks later is open and there are 5-6 polyps. In hindsight I wish I would've just fragged off the first one to melt.

Yeah the frag in the upper right hand corner is the one in question. If you look there is one polyp that remains closed. it looks like it is melting, but I am still unsure. I am going to watch it another few days to check.

after looking at the post it maybe confusing on which I am speaking of. The orange zoas. there is a polyp closed and looks like it might be stressed, but I am unsure. Will continue to watch

from what I've experienced zoos that are melting away have zoopox. I had this happen to a huge colony after introducing a frag of zoos. what I found out was if you put the frag or colony in front of a powerhead or a place with a good amount of flow hitting them the slime will fall off and the colony will make a comeback. I couldn't move my colony so I set up a koralia 1 on the front of my tank that aimed right at all my zoos and in about 4 days all my zoos started opening again. left the power head there for about a week and now everything is back to normal. granted you will lose the really bad ones but you can save a lot of zoos by doing this.

I would frag it, I have done it before when I get a couple of polyps that they are not doing to good I just frag the good ones.

All dont always melt, but it happens. I have had a colony melt completely, and also have a frag that melted all but one polyp, and still, over 1 year later, is still one polyp.

Your frag looks like a good candidate for fragging though, even if it has to be one polyp, but is still questionable.

Its not always good to frag an already stressed out frag.

If it spreads, then fragging might be a good choice. Keep an eye on it.

I dont see any sighns of zoapox.
