If there's a turkey thread then we need a trout thread, too

Spent a few hours here over the weekend:

Didn't catch anything except little junk fish. My brother has pulled some monsters out of this pool, though. My favorite part about it is that it's enough of a walk in from the road that you can't hear cars and you never see other people. :)

That is a beautiful place! My buddy caught a big one the other day.

This one:

The spot I took that photo at is the bend just below the clearcut path near the top of the map image.

Dunno if it has a name. It's one of the many tiny little creeks that empty into Chittenango creek near Caz before the falls. This one is reeeeallly slow and muddy on the bottom. Most of these creeks are fast and rocky.

We usually bring a bunch of poles, use tiny hooks and worms, and just cast them and wait. 90% of what we catch is little random crap (carp, creek chubs, the occasional displaced bass or sunfish, etc.). But probably every other time we go, at least one of us catches a nice big brown or two:

Most of these little creeks are stocked which kind of sucks, because who wants to catch a dozen 8" long rainbows? It's hard to fish in a stocked section and catch anything worth the effort. So we usually try to find these little off-the-beaten-path bits.

oh where is Greg? I went fishing with him and his buddy last year on the canal - can't remember the name of the fish now...but what a great day!

Trout Fishing

Trout Fishing

I believe that is part of Nelson Swamp which is part of Chittenango Creek, Ithink parts of that portion of the creek are stocked but you will find wild browns in there as well. Nice little place to fish some of it can be difficult to get to with the Alders and brush. Check out CNYFlyfish.com for some interesting local trout fishing knowledge.

i had a cool little green drake on my screen yesterday. i had the itch to get out. sadly, most of my flyishing is thrashing at salmon a few times a year

Yeah, it's at least really close to the Nelson swamp.

Thanks for the website suggestion, I hadn't seen that before.

Looks like a laker,nice catch.

I've found some real nice holes in chittenago creek after a couple buddys took me out their.Been a while since I've trout fished though.I remember catching alot of brooks with a rig up one of these guys was nailing them on.He used a premade leader with a small red spinnerblade attached to it.Couple browns over 20" that day keying in on deep pools near bends.

Perch and walleye, now your talking! My favorites by far. Here Onieda lake has alot of average sizers,2-4 lbs. Otisco lake ,not as many but much larger ones.
