If you could choose between Tunze and Ecotech

 My buddy ran his tank off his truck for a week with a normal inverter. He heated the water on a propane stove and only ran two MJ1200's on the inverter.

Hey guys.

Sorry to barge into your forum uninvited. CoralFarmer at Caesars turned me on to your club. I've been pondering this very issue.

For what it's worth, I popped for the EcoTech a couple weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it. I have a 100g with a noisy overflow, so the slight noise from the external portion doesn't bother me. It definitely moves water.

There is a droning sound when the unit is running at high speeds. The alignment of the wet and dry parts is critical here to reduce noise in general. Also, the droning can be always be controlled / eliminated by turning the pump down.

I run it in Reef Crest mode and I don't hear the changing of speeds. I do sometimes notice when it's on high from the slight droning.

The light on the controller is too bright, imho, but I like how it changes color to indicate mode. It's like having a night light on by the tank, which I'm not crazy about in general.

My thoughts (crazy man talking) go towards getting a second one and running them at opposite sides of the tank in anti-sync mode. Talk about your tidal currents back and forth!

Reefbass, welcome to our club area, you are welcome here. Also our club meet frequently and you are welcome to come by and hang out with us.

My plan is to buy the set, with the controller, and battery backup
I currently run 2 MJ1200's with the Eco Mod kits

Winged briefs, thank you for your hospitality. I appreciate it. Love your avatar.

I read about the tank tour this weekend and I would love to get in on it. However, I'm going out of state for Easter weekend. Next time.

Yes, I'm placing my little ecosystem in someone else's hands. Briefly. I'm having a harder time with it this trip. It will all be fine...

Runway man, your approach looks good but I suggest you level out those wings!

I haven't tried the ecomod'd mjs but I hear they are a big flow improvement over the stock mjs. My guess is the EcoTech on high moves more water, but it's just a guess. You will certainly have significantly less bulk and no a/c in the water with the EcoTech as well as less heat transfer from the pump motor due to its external mounting. I think positioning pumps at opposite ends of the tank in anti sync mode (the higher one pump flows, the less the other does) ought to provide about ideal varied flow.

Now if I could just print up another $400+...

Reef Bass, Sorry you can't make the tank tour. Don't worry we meet monthly usually on Friday nights.

Glad to hear Coral Farmer is Promoting the club at Caesar's he's a great guy.
