man this is gonna be hard if we have to go north. i have too many animals to move.

Same here

yea with 3 cats, 2 dogs, and a bird i wont be going anywhere.... fortunatly i have shutters for every wndow and even the sliding door so i should be ok unless the roof gets blown off! :eek2:
btw its a cat4 already!

i've got this feeling that it's gunna hit us and hit us hard...because karma's a profanity removed! we all made fun of that last storm that "spit" on us. hopefully it doesn't hurt too bad!

I'll be heading outa here if it comes

Same here.

If a hurricane is a cat 4-5 cars can be pushed, roofs go flying, windows shatter, house shakes, and every little pebble becomes a flying projectile.

Honeslty the worst hurricane I have been through was Wilma and it wasn't even that strong, I think a cat 2 but the eye came within 20 or so miles from my house. Part of our roof flew off, every tree on our yard fell, tiles dinged and dented all of our cars, sliding glass windows shook enough to scare the crap out of us, and the wind mixed with the rain, looking through our sliding glass windows looked like a blank white computer screen, very creepy. Oh and howling like a freight train didn't help either.

With all that being said if Ike really does directly hit us I hope everyone is prepared.

Looks like it going to smack the profanity removed out of us. This one might actually hit us which would suck since it would be coming in at a cat.4!!

If you have to get creative with symbols in place of letters to get your word to post, take the hint, it's not welcome here

Folks, we use profanity filters for a reason. People have actually lost the ability to post here over their repeated attempts at "fooling" the censors. Don't become one of those people.

lol whoops my bad

i wont be leaving. might head around the corner to my parents. i dont think IKE is going to be close to ANDREW.

Funny how the weather channel shows the path going north of us, while channel 10 shows it hitting us head on.

I never trust the news when they earn a profit in our terror.

Nonetheless, preparations are all we can do.

The predictions are done by different groups, heres all of them on one map. The model acronyms are here.

I havent been through a major one here yet. No idea how my tank will handle, but I imagine its screwed. No generator and I live in an apartment so thats not really an option. No A/C for a few days would cook it.

I'm up at school, so I wish everyone the best. My dad/parents might just fly out since he's got to get his plane out of here cause anything stronger than a gentle breeze will destroy it. We talked it over today, and if he does leave, I'm hoping that my tank would last 24 hours or so (usually a LONG time after hurricane has done it's damage and gone). I thought the tank would last about 8 hours or so without flow or oxygenation, maybe less, but he reminded me about shipping corals in bags with little oxygen, and I've had corals in the bags 24-36 hours, not to mention the constant abuse of shipping (which might actually help mix the water and air, or make things worse, I've never gotten a straight answer from anyone on that in this hobby, deserves another thread).

Either way, we've got a generator in case someone does stay home, or when they do come back, and 3 cars to siphon gas out of, as well as some gas stored up too. I'm not worried much by the temps (we won't have AC, generator isn't strong enough), because knock on wood, I've left the temp controller off a few times now, and the tank has hit 90 degrees and stayed up that high for 6-8 hours or so without any negative signs from the corals, so it should be okay, and that was under lighting.

Good luck to everyone, Al, good luck getting that tank inside!

Prepare for the worst, but I don't think we are gonna get hammered that bad. A direct hit with a cat 3-4 would be bad, but the center of the storm is not that big, as with most hurricanes. We will probably have some bad weather from the outskirts of it either way. Get prepared and then relax and plan on having a day or two off from work. Stock up on what you like!
My tank sits in front of a window with no shutters, but our condo is shielded by a taller building right next to ours. We are on the 3rd floor. I am hoping all will be well. Frags came in today and are arriving tomorrow, would be crazy to lose everything now. Either way, will be here to do what I can.
