Very nice pics! These with the 6D? Did you debate the 5DIII versus the 6D before pulling the trigger?

Thank you. Yes, shot with 6D. Yes, I did contemplate the 5D. Then I realized I could almost buy 2 6Ds for the price of the 5D. Or a 6D and a L lens and still end up with a full frame sensor.

Why the 6D specifically though, you could always pick up a great full frame camera used for even less (e.g. 5DII)? Only reason I'm asking is I'm debating picking up a second body eventually in addition to my 7D, and potentially considering selling my 7D outright and putting the funds toward a FF body. If I can swing it, I'm hoping to potentially pick up a used 5DIII.

Yes, I could have shopped around for a used 5DII and opted to not do so. I feel the 6D is about 90% of the 5DIII in the features that are important to me. I get the latest full frame sensor, image processing and high ISO handling for excellent image quality. I generally shoot relatively stationary targets, so the faster AF of the 5DIII, while totally sweet and desirable, was not worth paying a great deal more for me. I'm not a big video shooter, so the faster video capture of the 5DIII was not a huge draw for me. Another card slot would be nice, but again, not a problem for me. Plus I get wifi and gps which are not built in to the 5DIII.

Considering my admittedly not demanding needs and current product price points, I am happy with my 6D. Full frame goodness. :D

That said, if you found a great price on used 5DIII, it is a better camera.

From what I've read, the 6D outperforms the 5DIII in lower light situations at higher ISOs noise wise. I don't know about the focus system in these situations, but as you've noted the 5DIII is supposed to be a step up in the focusing department over their other bodies, so I'm guessing they are comparable or the 5DIII may have a slight edge. I don't care about Wifi or GPS, but the max fps is of some interest as I like to shoot birds and wildlife. That said, there is a tradeoff between going FF and losing the extra reach of the crop sensor in that regard at any given focal length (my longest lens is 400 mm and not long enough IMO, a situation that will be worsened by moving to FF). I am getting more into shooting landscapes and I have a young child, so the tradeoff may be worth it (less reach but better overall IQ and better high ISO/low light capabilities). I'll def take a look at the 6D in addition to the 5DII and 5DIII.

Sounds like you have thought a lot about what you want. I hear your point about "losing reach" from your crop sensor. For me, the visual cream of the full frame sensor is worth it. The clarity and lack of noise in my first shot of my Orange Stargazer palys is delicious.

Great pictures. What lens and/or extension tubes are you using for those? I have a 5d2 and am contemplating the 100mm macros, either regular or L.

Yes, I would have to agree, the IQ of your shots is fantastic, even at the large size you've posted them. Looking forward to more, before I pull the trigger on any decisions, I may PM you to ask a bit more about the 6D. At this point I'll wait until after Christmas and hopefully get a better deal depending on the route I go.

Thanks. You are welcome to pm any time.

Sorry about the size. My monitors and even phone are 1920x1080, so 1440x960 (4x6 @240) fits nicely.
