I'm done.

Alright this hobby has been starting to annoy me. My tank has gotten ich so many times. I've cured it many time and it just keeps happening. The last time I got it was about 2 months ago. And my tank just recently got it again. I've lost my Tomini tang and golden head goby. I'm not happy about this. I know how to cure it but I have to do this all the time and every time I have to cure it I lose a fish or 2. Can someone tell me all the reasons and any reasons why this is happening.

Have you let the tank go without fish for 72 days to allow the ich to die out? If not, it's there in your tank ready to reinfect.
Sorry for your losses and frustrations. It's hard to lose fish.

Every website I look at says it dies in 3 days if has no fish to attach to but there was no fish in the tank and before I put my fish back I made sure they didn't have ich

Tank has to be fish less for at least 72 days , and then you still have to quarantine Your fish before they go in , in my case I treat them proactively even if they don't show signs of any illness . Your fish can be infected with ich with out showing any visible signs.
Read the stickys.

+1... Seems like you were getting bad information ... You have never cured your tank and that is why it comes right back... There is a 'sticky' in this forum to help you

Nothing is more discouraging in this hobby to me than a cycle of a disease(s). It takes patience to overcome it. Even a 4 week fallow period can make a HUGE difference. Longer is safer.

Well, ich is not just an infection, but may also be a symptom that something with your tank isn't right.
What I mean is, that if your tank is stable, has good water and the appropriate fish for you tank size who also get along with each other, even if ich is in the tank your fish should be able to mange it.

I had ich show up on new fish in quarantine tanks and the fish beat on their own without any intervention. The parasite may still in there, but the fish acquired immunity, at a minimum enough not to be sick. Now, I still need to run them through TTM before putting them into my tank, but I did not need to actually treat them for them to survive.

You can (and should) clean up your tank (at least 3 months without fish or any new invert or coral additions), clean you fish up with TTM and follow a strict quarantine protocol with anything new (anything means all and everything here!) to keep the parasite out of your system, but unless you fix whatever stresses your fish to be susceptible to ich, they will find a way to get sick with something else.

As a beginner I was where you are now until I understood that first and foremost you need to meet the needs of your fish.

Nah - a tank without any fish is just boring. You just need to stay clear of the usual trouble makers.

I had a corals only tank for 4 months once. It was fine and not boring. The only problem I ran into without having fishes is my pod and baby shrimp population exploded. So I got a wrasse and a clown. Had those two fishes by themselves for another 4 months in a 60 gallon. I love watching my corals grow. The only thing that could probably come close to it is when my clowns start breeding.

Don't give up. When I first started out, I lost all my fish because I did not know of all the available information out there like this forum. I was just taking my LFS advice. Anyway, during the 72 fishless day period, I went to Petco got a nice 30 gallon long for quarantine. Got it setup and started the cycle. The cycle took about 3.5 weeks, so that's around 25 days. So I had 47 days left. I got 2 fish and put them in the quarantine tank for 8 weeks, so that's 56 days. So at the end of the quarantine period your display tank should be good to go. I still had fish, but not in the DT, so it's not too bad and boring. I hope that all made since.

Honestly, this hobby is about PATIENCE. Well, life in general but that's something else...

It's a tough hobby and many of us go thru losses and complete losses, crashes, etc. It isn't easy, but once things are smooth it's rewarding. Don't give up

This. Setbacks are an unfortunate part of this hobby. But, if you treat each setback as a learning opportunity, you'll be a better aquarist in the long run.

@ clownfishguy6 , I read in your tank description that you're only 13... If you follow the advice above and read the stickies on cryptocarion and figure this out. You'll have accomplished what many hobbyists give up on and you'll be a fish superstar by the time you get to be an young adult....
Patience is the hard part!
