I'm done.

Diatom filter are capable of removing the free swimming phases but usually do not have the required turnover to remove enough to make a dent.
You need a throughput of at least 7 times the tank volume per hour to have a notable effect.
All the diatom filter for fish tanks I've seen so far would only be good for nano tanks or QTs up to maybe 20 gallon.
Also, they require even more maintenance that UV sterilizers since they clog quickly.

Ok I will pass on the diatom filter. It was just an idea to throw out there because I have read some really good things about them. If there was a good way to get that tang out of my tank without stressing everyone out, I would do it in a heartbeat. I will keep up the husbandry - excellent parameters, feeding good foods, reducing stress, and hope for the best. My reef is looking really good now and I will be devastated if I lose a bunch of fish again.

Come to think of it, I think I might have had velvet get in my tank the last time. I have dealt with ich for years but never lost a fish, but this past summer I lost six within three weeks. Do you guys think the timeline might fit velvet better? It must have come in on a frag plug or snails because there were no new fish additions for over a year and I lost some fish I had for a long time. It was awful. That is why I was trying so good to implement TTM and quarantine lately. It is too bad I might have screwed up again. I am praying that the 11 week fallow period was safe for velvet, just in case that was the real culprit.

The timeline certainly fits a possible velvet infection. Fortunately, 6 weeks fallow will eliminate it. Velvet is a nasty one.

Thank God. I don't ever want to see that one again. Now I understand why folks get out of this hobby so quickly, and how important quarantine can be. How long does it take to show up on fish? About three weeks? That is what happened in my case and the fish were very fit and healthy.
