Alright so my family has had a 128 and a couple 55g fw tanks since before I was born. Well I'm not sure what happened but suddenly on Christmas day, I went nuts and decided that it was time to give all my money to the LFS. I wanted SW. So I purchased a 29g biocube to mess around with for a month and do some small things with. My goal is to get a large 128g for my office no later than March 07.
I got my 29g setup yesterday got the salt and live sand in there. Today....I went and got my LR today! I have never been so excited as getting a rock. I put it in my tank and wow! I start looking at it more carefully than the 20 minutes I spent staring at rocks with the lady at the store.
and i find feather dusters and what starts rolling out of the rock while I'm looking at it, but a micro shrimp!
My biggest question right now (other than watching the salt and such) is what light should I have on? I've got a UV light that I guess stays on all the time, a 10k light and another light which I don't know what it does, but its not nearly as bright. What should I be doing over the next few days. What is the next thing I can do? A guy at Beldt's told me that I could go get a starfish or some other minor items maybe as early as next week. Is this true?! Everything I've read says I have to wait until about 4 weeks before i'll see anything moving in my tank. My goal for this tank is 2 clowns a sea anenome some crabs and I don't know what else...any ideas? I really would like anything bright blue or bright orange.
The 128g is going in my office. Does anyone know of a really good deal on a whole setup that I can get or does someone have something for sale? I definitely want to do a reef setup in that tank. I want people to walk into my office and be wowed. I plan on starting slow though. Also I want to do a sump I think, is there any to do this that won't cost $500 for a 128g tank?
Does one LFS have better deals than another?
Can anyone tell me some idiot mistakes that newbies make that I'm about to that I don't know yet? I've read so much in the past three or four days. It's consumed me, but I'm willing to learn anything I can. I'll take any advice I can get!
