I'm going to try Hyposalinity

I've used copper in the past to treat Cryptocaryon irritans with great success but this time I don't have the ability test the tank and adjust levels 3 times a day, so I'm thinking of trying hyposalinity as Steven Pro once suggested.

I have a 35 gallon bare quarantine tank with a Blue Tang, a Flame Angel and a long-nosed Hawkfish.

Can anyone tell me with 100% certainty if these three species can endure hyposalinity as suggested by Steven Pro?

I failed to QT and angel fish once. I then infected my tank with "black Ich"
The angel never made it. My Yellow Tang, Clowns and blenny all pulled through.

I performed a fresh water dip. (not for the faint of heart) Put the fishes in hypo salinity at 1.010 and raised the water temp to 82deg.

I cleaned the tank and kept it fallow for over 4 weeks. I have not had any issues since.

I did not use any medications to treat my fishes or my tank.

Once you have the fish in Hypo Salinity, you must raise the salinity slowly over a period of days/weeks. Then, acclimate to the display tank.

I have a video of the tank and QT I set up.

I hope this helps with your question.

Good luck!

The fish will handle the hypo. Its the effectivness of the treatment to worry about. Must be between 1.08 and 1.09 at all times. Ph is often diificult to keep up also.

As Mrscribbled said, the fish ought to tolerate hyposalinity just fine (1.008-1.009 with a precisely calibrated refractometer). However, the effectiveness of hypo has had some serious doubt cast over it, due to potentially resistant strains of ich and user-error when measuring salinity. Do you have an ATO for the quarantine tank? Slight shifts in your salinity can reset the clock on your treatment period. Also, it's really important to know that hypo ONLY "works" on crypto. If you are 2 weeks in and velvet shows up, you will have a serious problem since you can't use other treatments in a hyposaline environment.

Why would you need to adjust copper levels 3 times a day?

I agree with this post in general. If you are not using an ATO, you will need to frequently test and adjust salinity using a calibrated (properly) refractometer.
