I'm having big fun now...390 display +

Thanks Chris, I haven't heard that before. I'm following a few threads where Arag-Alive is being used, and all seems well so far. I'll ask some questions and see what comes up.

I have found that when the sand is turning to stone like that, it is from to high of Alk and the Ca precips out and fuses the sand together.

Mike is the sand still in bags? I was thinking that a couple 5gal buckets would be 100lbs.

I'm going to the meeting, but I'm not ready for sand yet. Let's carpool.
I would like to bring the biowheels from my QT over, so you can put them in the sump for a couple weeks.

mike, 70% full, it's all over now, you won't be able to stop till it's running!

just last weekend it only had 1" of water and plumbing disconnected!

by the way, if you haven't seen this tank - much bigger in person!

Did you get your QT up and running? That is going to be so cool with the fish selection you have - very nice! Congratulations!!!!

I'm picking up my RO/DI on Friday evening. Poknsnok is putting my 2 biowheels for the QT in his sump on Saturday to get some bacteria growing. I'll leave them there for a couple weeks. Patience, I keep telling myself. I'm going to put a pvc pipe "cave/tunnel structure" in the QT for hiding places. Not long before I put fish in the QT.

That is real close - two weeks or so, yes real close. That's what I do with my QT- I always have at least three filters in my sump. When I purchase new fish, I take it out put it into my filtration system on my QT and I'm good to go. After using I just throw the used one away and put a new filter in the sump again. I also use water from my 75g tank also. My QT is only 10g and this method has worked without any problems. This is how I did it with my freshwater - I just continued the practice.

The reefer who is dedicated to QT pracitces is a happy reefer!

It is nice to see people doing it right!

Are you guys treating for worms or other internal parasites even if you do not see outward signs of infection?

I treat everything (coral, fish, mobile, or motile, whichever is correct, inverts) for everything.
My QT is for 8 weeks.
Look at the number of threads on this forum where QT might have helped avoid a large disaster.

Mike my buddy JeffBrig(His Thread) has an insane QT regiment consisting of dips and Hypo salinity and after 1.5 years he has Ich again.

What do you know that the rest of us are still trying to figure out?

Will you have 2 separate QT systems one for fish and one for corals?

Will you medicate everything or just do dips?

Let me know when you want do do the sand swap.

I'm a believer that Marine Ich may always be present and is aggravated by some form of stress to the fish, and then it spreads to other succeseptible fish. There are numerous articles written about both sides of this arguement.

I'm more concerned with other parasites, that can be eradicated by various forms of treatment and observation.

Greg, are you going to the club meeting Saturday?

I always use a QT and do a fresh water dip then QT for 3-4 weeks my QT tank is a 20aga in the cabinet with a aquaclear 500 and a 150w heater and some pvc pipes for hiding places. All I do is start with a empty tank do a 20G water change in the display tank by draining it into the QT put in carbon and a sponge filter from the sump into the AC 500 plug in the heater, light, pvc pipe, add fish, corals ect..... monitor water parameters and livestock ect... and then the hard part, wait 3-4weeks. This method has worked well for me.
