I'm married--I can't just keep buying bigger tanks.

moorish idols are totally reefsafe :)

Lol I don't know, every one sais that, but mine just loves taking a nice bite here and there. It also ate most of my favia before I removed the rest. Not as bad as my angels though.

Nice tank Gyr, I'm sure you can sell your corals locally just fine.

Well welcome. Another local guy who will gladly pay to help you prune back your system.

I am Borchers from the MARS group myself. Had we have know about your system we could have added you to the Tour we had on sunday.

Woodland Boyzz!

we are having a frag swap in chico this month (24th of march) you could attend and trade some of those unwanted pieces. check us out on chicoreefclub.net. hope to see you there!

Man, what beautiful growth! I always say when your coral outgrow your tank, you get a bigger tank! LOL! That's exactly what happened to me! Unfortunately in this hobby, it seems we're always spending money!

I would pull the stags and replace them with acros that grow more dense and contained. I also like the nice clean look. While the forest of acros is impressive, I just like the cleaner look of dense acropora colonies. I think stags get overwhelming and are sort of a distraction.

Stags just grow too fast and spindly.

Don't be afraid to pull / retire corals to replace them with new ones, I think you'll feel a great deal of relief. I had a big stag colony that was just taking up too much space in my tank, it was overwhelming that you didn't even notice many other corals. While I felt really bad about thinking of removing it, I felt huge relief after I pulled that sucker out.

Just find good homes for them if you can.

1. Sell some, give some away
2. Take the money and buy your understanding wife something like a vacation
3. repeat

I'll buy some of them if you want. I need to fill up my tank and most lfs in Roseville/Sacramento do not have any colonies as big as yours.

You have a beautifull tank. Can you share some pics of the sump? Please tell me how you get to grow corals like that?

Hey Kurt.. Awesome growth. What is your water change schedule with this tank? just cruious...

Okay, I tried several different angles and settings on my camera and finally got a half-way decent front-ish view of the tank:

Thanks for the kind comments.

I have a fairly frequent water change routine. I do a 10 % water change weekly. That's not too unusual, but I use a wet-skim technique. The first time I tried this technique my m. caps all kind of semi-bleached from the sudden improved water clarity (at least that was the theory) but they eventually recovered and the growth of my corals really seemed to improve after that. (here's a thread about that event if you are interested: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1925210

Here are some growth comparison shots...

you can see two of my acro stags in this photo from April, 2011. The one to the left of the rose BTA is Surf'nTurf, the blue tipped one to the right is Vivid's Turquoise stag:

looks like those clove polyps are going to take over:uzi:......nice growth though:beer:.....mike

Hey Kurt that is pretty impressive, could u tell me your bulb configuration please, thanks.

3 ATI Blue Plus, 1 Fiji Purple, 1 GE 65K, 1 ATI Aquablue Special
From front to back: Blue +, Fiji, GE, Blue+, Blue +, Aquablue

I have not changed these blubs since I first set up the ATI fixture in July of 2010. Way past due for T5 bulb changes I know, but I was trying to slow the SPS growth over the past year and I thought a delay in bulb change might help. Maybe once I de-bulk my tank it'll be time to replace the bulbs.

They have.

They cover just about every inch of the rockwork. It was unintentional, I believed the LFS guy who told me they wouldn't spread off the rock I bought them on, but they have spawned multiple times. When they first started spreading I was concerned, but when I realized they weren't going to overgrow any coral I relaxed. Now I kind of like it. They give a subtle backround movement to an otherwise static tank (the BTA and fish I have are the only other things in my tank that move).
