I'm moving my tank this week

Ughh..
well the day has come and I am moving..we are building a house in nolensville. We are temporarily moving to Brentwood for 5 months while the house is under construction.

Needless to say the tank is looking GREAT..my SPS are growing fast and here goes moving the tank twice within 6 months.

Any suggestions? I have moved a tank before and my plan is to get two large trash cans with wheels...load all the (noncoral attached) rock and a lot of water in one and in the other with water and any large rocks that have coral pieces on them. I will then break the tank down..drive to Brentwood..setup the tank again just putting the non coral rocks in the tank fill it with water ..and let it settle. I can set my light over the trash can with all the corals and get a heater and flow in there to keep all corals somewhat happy while waiting for the tank to clear.

Then redo my rockwork add corals and see what dies :0 Then six months later do it all again...anyone wanna help? Oh yes its a 76 gallon half circle tank.

Hey CJ at least It's only a 76 not a 180 with 100 gal sump. What day you planning on geting It done? Also I have plenty Of Brute trash cans 4 I think so don't buy any. I'll try and give you a hand, But can't do any heavy lifting. I'll PM you my # LMK when and where?

When done, Both Zef and I still need them so would meet up again to get them back from you unless someone else needs them immediately following your move.

I used them tonight in fact to clean and re-cut my stand for the holes in the 220. Perfecto cut them way to the side :/.

This week I just need to re-silicon in the overflows and add 2 new braces to the back of the stand to compensate what I cut out and then I am ready to start set up.

Here's what I did when we moved both of our tanks. I used multiple rubbermaid containers, one for rocks with no corals on it I put only a bit of water in with it, and one for rocks with corals on it and submerge the corals in water. Individual bagged the inverts and the fish and the loose corals. Then bunch of water jugs for water. We left just a little bit of water with the sand in tank. IT IS NOT easy to move tank with sand in it. VERY HEAVY!!!! But we moved it, a 55 and a 90. Only 4 people moving it without suction cups!!! I got the Styrofoam boxes and bags with rubber bands from Critters. I placed all the bagged items into styrofoam boxes, it made it simple and safe! Thanks to Critters!!! You must request those stryofoam boxes ahead of time cause they run out of them quick.

Once moved, I start setting up the tank and fill it back up with rock work. IF you fill the tank up with a hose but use a plate on the sandbed to keep you from having a sand storm. At the sametime I pour water on top of rock work. It got a little cloudy, but not bad at all. I soon placed my corals within along with my fish and inverts. I did not have any loss of corals or fish, except one fish that was left in the bucket too long and it got too cold. It died in the bucket, not in the tank. One thing you have to make sure to make extra water at your new location. Cause you just never know! I'm glad I did cause I used all the extra water up.

Which day are you thinking about moving? I work a lot, but I can help with whatever I can if I'm off on the day of the move. I can not do heavy lifting since I have a back injury.

I've got 2 - 39 (?) gallon brute trashcans I will no longer need. I should be done with them by the end of this week.

I got my move coming up in a month. Luckily I just went to my new nano so it will be much easier for me. When I moved my 125 downstairs, with the help of many in the club, it went good. We did keep most of the sand in place and it worked well.

When you post the date I'll try to be available as well.

Here is a trick on filling up with minimal cloudage (new word there I made up) put an empty vase in the tank and let the water fill the vase and overflow this will minimize the cloudage

Thanks for everyones help and input..in thinking I will need several things..if anyone can loan some of these to me that would be great!

Several (5-8) 5g buckets (preferably with lids)
A couple of heaters
A couple of pumps to move water ..maxi jets etc..
and large trash cans
digital thermometer
Andy I may take you up on getting those suction cups

I am wanting to move this tank this Thursday..I have an open day so anytime I could get a few guys who could help me move the tank.
The trip would be from the Aquatic Critter area to Cool Springs
I have the truck so no worries there..thanks for any help guys

Oh, and one thing to keep in mind is that the suction cups will probably only work on the back of your tank, assuming its not painted.

I have two QuietOne 3000's to move water. I will likely have a extra heater also. I also have an extra Coralife thermo or two. I should have one 39 Gallon trashcan as well. I am breaking down my sump today and will see what I have left after storing the remaining liverock and sand.
