Those are special silicones elos uses. Most elos tanks uses multiple sheets of glass on the bottom instead of using one whole piece...If i'm not mistaken, elos use it to allow the bottom to flex freely.

One alternative instead of spray painting the back is to tint the back side. I did it for my tank with no issue...in case if I want it changed I can easily remove the film instead of paint.

The overflow looks pretty small. How much flow can it handle? tank looks really nice man..

Canopy? Are you on drugs, man!!! I will never use a canopy again. Anyone know who sells starboard locally? I think I will just spray paint it as I've always liked a black back. I did have one of my tanks tinted in the past and it came out well. Just want to spray paint as it seems easier.

There is no pvc glued to the bottom. I think Jesse explained it as several pieces of glass overlapping each other in order to provide flex. You never know when the next earthquake will strike.:eek1:
As far as the overflow goes, the elos overflow is not your standard overflow. The water doesn't even touch the chambers. The chambers actually stay completely dry. It's just a spa flex tube that runs from the tank to the sump.

why not a PVC bottom? it's very strong, pretty cheap at places like TAP Plastics.

PVC bottom sounds like a great idea. The only thing is detritus might settle on the edges of it and may get underneath it. I wonder if there is a tap plastics near me.

Tap plastics sells Starboard. I think it's cheaper than sheet PVC.

Hmm, what are the pros and cons going with starboard vs. pvc? Anyone know? Also, will silicone bind pvc and glass together?

I've seen pvc cut to almost precisely the bottom of the tank. starboard and pvc will both need to be somehow silicon'd to the bottom VERY well.

Starboard is usually textured, and can still collect detritus (Somewhat) and be hard to clean.

I would go with smooth pvc mostly because it can be cleaned easily with a scraper etc.

I would go with ABS myself. It tends to be a bit harder to scratch then PVC.

if you're just trying to cover up the black silicon job on the bottom, you may consider spray painting the outside bottom piece while you're spraying the back, given you would want a black bottom. It'd probably hide the silicon, and being black it'd be difficult to see against black.

If you didn't like it, well then sand or some plastic on the bottom would cover ALL of it up anyway =)

Spray painting the bottom is also a good idea. I just wish I did all of this before I put the tank on it's stand!

Aw' c'mon ain't that hard.

Tape saran/cling wrap right up the bottom edge or wherever you want to spray up to let dry, unwrap the cling wrap and you're done.

See easy.

That's a good question. I'm going to use Krylon on it. Just basic spray paint. I figure, since I am painting the outside, it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
