I'm officially back!!!

Yeah, I didn't put my tank up on the stand until I was sure I was all done with it and the stand/sump.

I actually should've spray painted the bottom and back first though, DOH! I'll do it when I move in April.

What are the dimensions on the tank Maximus? I really like the depth.......might have to pick one up next year and sell the 70 :p.

Jesse showed me their flow kit which includes 2x1260 Eheim pumps that are concealed next to the overflow chamber. It looks great and stealthy. Could you imagine how clean the tank would look with no powerheads of any type?:)

Hey maximus, will this flow kit from Elos fit in any tank or is this specific to Elos tanks?

The dimensions are roughly 48x32x20. I'm not really sure if the flow kit will fit other tanks as I really havent played with one. I do know that it fits in the grooves where the overflow chamber is on the Elos tanks.

Does anyone know if any local LFS's in the area carry the Ocean Visions backing material?

Sang,

I just went to a local sign shop and was able to a large black vinyl sticker for 5 bucks a foot. I have yet to try to apply. May try tonight and will let you know how it comes out.

Have you considered just using regular auto glass limo tint? You can pick up a roll at Kragen's that I believe will cover your entire tank for around $12. I was planning on using the limo tint on the back of my tank but got too anxious on setting the darn thing up and forgot to do it. I'll probably get to it soon though.

tint is so hard to do... at least on cars. you get bubbles, and all that ugliness.

You have to take a heat gun, and slowly apply that stuff =( I think the background aaron (acgreen) is using may be easier.

*shrug* just speaking from experience tinting my windows, scrapping it after 3 days and getting it professionally done.

MD sells something very similar.

Yeah, I'm going to go with the MD stuff and have it shipped here by tomorrow. I haven't decided on the starboard or pvc bottom yet. What thickness starboard did you guys go with? 3/4"?

Sang, the black vinyl sticker did not go on as nice as I was hoping. More air bubbles then I was hoping to get. Not sure how it will look after water and LR is added.

The other issue I had was the cutout for the external overflow, so it was not just applying a simple rectangle piece.

Keep me posted how the stuff from MD applies.

thanks

Fellas,
Dave and I have used vinyl in the past and it has worked great. I think the best thing about it is the fact that you can get it in so many different colors. The key, however, is to get as much of the lubricating liquid (i think its just soapy water) underneath as possible. Doesnt seem intuitive to put a liquid substance underneath something sticky, but once you "squeegy" it all out, it will be perfectly smooth. I would personally go this route, as its fast, cheap and as mentioned, comes in many different colors.

Thanks Theo. Will go grab somemore and try the soapy water trick.

Let me know if you need frags, going to be taking at least one of the oakland tanks down soon (hopefully).

I ordered the vinyl at MD so it should be here tomorrow. I'm going to try to do the bottom of the tank as well. Will keep you guys updated.

Thanks, dude. I probably wont be ready for awhile but ill hit you up when im ready. And yes, try the soapy water trick. Dave and I did some vinly work in the past and this worked flawlessly. If you dont want to start over, just get a pin and pop the bubbles and that should get rid of some of them.

Windex works well too. When we used to spply decals to bicycles when I worked in a shop, we would spray the frame and stickers with windex (dripping wet). We would move it into place, and work the bubbles out. Eventually, the windex would dry and it would stick like nobody's business.

Same goes for the vinyl sign stuff.

The liquid isn't just soapy water as some soap is very bad for vinyl. I have a gallon of the solution which makes several gallons of diluted product and I'd be willing to give a little out to a few of you. You don't need much, it atomizes on in small amounts via a spray bottle.

I've used both and I much prefer the real deal over sopay water. Soapy water tends take much longer to allow the adhesive stick, way too long. You tend to get curled corners and areas that just didn't stick.
