I'm ordering from LiveAquaria.com

i just got back from the LFS and i saw female lyretail anthias for $49.99! Wow -- that $12.99 price was killer! if i only had a bigger tank! the good news is that i also saw a couple of nice looking Koles while I was there... ;)

for the LA order, i ordered a bunch of little green reef chromis, a medium powder blue tang, and a coral beauty angel, all on sale. i also picked up a handful of turban snails and 3 dwarf hermit crabs that were not on sale.

the anthias are the only items in our shipment where two people ordered the same thing. there are 8 of them all together. i don't know if they'll bag them singly or in a group. i'll let you two decide how you want to split them up.

Yippee! On the truck for delivery!

Can you believe that they routed the fish to Indianapolis and Michigan City instead of through Chicago?

Everybody check your PM. DOA merchandise has to be reported on the day of delivery. I had a bunch of dead chromies in the bags. LMK if you have any DOA to report.

everything seems to be alive on my end. Didnt really look like 40 snails to me, but I am not going to take the time to count them either.

I made room for new messages.

a question about my snails -- i acclimated mine turbo & trochus in a bucket, and now i can't get them to let go of the bucket to put them into the tank. any ideas?

I tugged and pulled, but these guys weren't letting go. i was afraid that i was going to rip it apart. so i touched the edge of an ice cube to the foot, and the snail immediately let go of the bucket! i guess snails don't like the cold. ;)

Bob if you have credit coming we'll have to do another group order. :p
aargh. its 11:30. i skipped dinner and i've been acclimating fish and inverts, and working on the tank non-stop since you guys left at 2:30 or thereabouts. i'm exhausted. needless to say, i'm not looking forward to doing this again for a while!

it looks like my chromies were the only shipping casualties. when i opened the bag, half of the chromies were alive and the other half were stiff as a board and stinky. i think that some of them had to be dead when they shipped them. there's no way that a fish could get stinky that fast, is there?

LA gave me a credit to my VISA for the chromies that were DOA. i ordered 20 of them, thinking that i'd lose 1/3 of them and i'd still have a nice school of a dozen or so. as it turns out i lost 1/2, but i still have a nice school of 10. they're in my 65 right now, which is both tall and deep. it gives them a lot of room to change directions when they're schooling. its really cool to watch the schooling behavior.

my Powder Blue Tang is friggin' awesome. he came out of the bag with GREAT coloration -- better than i've ever seen on a PBT in the stores. they did a good job on him -- 8 bags and a gallon of water. too bad they didn't pack the chromies as well.

i want to thank you guys for getting in on the group order. splitting up the shipping made a big difference.

BTW Breadman, I'm munching on a Strawberry bagel as I type this! :p thanks!

where the pics of the fish? I know you guys dont care to see pics of the ceriths I got, but I want to see those fish pics!

Enjoy the goodies Bob. I never get sick of good bread. ;)

I'll get some pics later Mike. I need to get a nap in before my wife goes to work.

fish pics. that's a good idea. i'll work on it for you.

as it turns out, i was having trouble counting the all of the chromies -- in the school they changed directions and they moved way too fast. the only way i could tell how many were there was to take a photo and count the blurred fish in the photo. i have to work on improving my photography skills. taking tank photos is harder than i expected it to be.

just thinking out loud for a minute: my isolation tank has a royal blue background that i sprayed on with Krylon. although its a great background color for most other fish its really the wrong color for the PBT. i'm thinking that a darker color, like black or maybe navy blue would be a better overall choice. i'll try that on one of the other tanks and see how it looks.

Hey bob you can try painting a piece of cardboard or wood or something and attaching it to a tank and see if you like it without actually paint the tank. You could try half black and half navy blue and see what you like best.

Trying to post pics with my brand new photobucket account.

Those two Antheas are always together I've yet to see all three together. Here is the clam.

you don't want to see a photo of the bucket of dead chromis that i've been putting in the freezer. i lost another 5 today. that's a body count of 15/20 or a 75% mortality rate, and the ones that are left aren't looking good. it looks like I may lose all of them. i rechecked the water parameters and rechecked the chemistries and everything is normal.

the good news is that my PBT looks great, and all the inverts are doing fine.
