imisky's 30G custom system

That is an awesome set up and tank that you have! Killer job! How do you like the cpr refuge? Im thinking of getting one, but instead of hanging it on my display, im going to hang it on my sump, lol.

The CPR fuge is not too bad of a product it does what its supposed to do, the only issue i have with it is the output constantly gurgles when the return chamber is empty, but if you were to stick a few LRR in there and raise the water level the sound quickly goes away.

Im looking into the NP Bio Pellets as a medium for carbon dosing. Im waiting on the shipment for mine but its backordered due to high demand. Once it arrives I'll start it up and let you guys know how it works.

a small update, not so much SPS related but since the tank has practically no more room for SPS anywhere i decided that i'll start collecting things that can go on the sandbed..so whats better then purchasing premium chalices right?

heres a piece that i picked up today with 4 eyes.

got my biopellets today and a newly cleaned mesh modded phosban reactor im almost ready to get this guy up and running just need to decide on a pump that will keep these pellets tumbling. The LFS that i am helping out at is running biopellets and i are having pretty good results with it so i thought why not give it a try. I'll keep you guys posted.

A small update...i havent been able to get the reacot up and running like i had hoped to do, maybe on wednesday i'll be able to after i drop by one of the LFS here and grab a maxijet 1200.

Meanwhile i had some time tonight to grab the camera out to get my custom white balance correct as i added new T5 bulbs to the light fixture and it required a new reference photo for the custom white balance. With that all done i got the macro lens and gave it a test run. heres some photos.

finally got the reactor up after having most of the parts, the TLF reactor + MJ1200 and a TLF ball valve is able to control the tumbling quite a bit incase i need to tune down the flow inside the reactor for whatever reason in the future.

We'll see how this does, i'll start to drop my vodka dosage slowly through the next week and let the reactor pick up the work. Im still planning to dose MB7 into the system along side the pellets as i think the addition of bacteria not only helps remove nutrients but feeds the corals /micro-organisms some what.

On a sad note... on friday my fairy wrasse wasnt looking too well and didnt come out much...and yesterday i didnt see it at all. Im sure it has died...cant find the body anywhere outside so it didnt jump... looking to stock up on some other type of fish again.

But heres a video and picture of the reactor running, nothing special just something to show

while the reactor kept working i am loving the lack of maintenance it provides. So now that i dont do maintance, i have alot of time to stare into the tank. So decided that the right side needed some work to allow for the corals to grow out. Removed the brown/blue stag and replaced it with a hawkins echinata and in moving things around the liverock, found an extra place for a coral, now whats better then to add a piece of rainbow stylopora into the tank.

WOW! Your tank is very impressive. Very clean too. Gotta be one of the coolest smaller tanks I've seen on here. Great job

awesome tank-simply amazing
thanks for the compliment!

Nice job. Are you still using the ca rx you made?
I was running it for a while until i cleaned it one day and scrubbed it too hard and caused some of the weldon16 to come off i guess and it ended up leaking in multiple places, but before that it was running wonderfully.

thank you!
great selection! how in the world did you have a 9g sps tank??

my 9g sps tank was barely considered a sps tank, more like a frag grow out. But have you seen this tank? (if the link doesnt work, search The Remarkable Pico Reef of Marcello in google and its the first one)

thought id give this thread an update,

finally got around to changing the MH bulb, i wanted something that was less blue but not so too yellow yet still provide high PAR. I didnt really like the 14Ks in the bulb selection for the 150W so i decided to go with this,

before:

2x 150W phoenix MH + 4x T5HO (fiji purple,giesemann pure actinic, UVL super actinic, aqua science 22,000K)

now:

2x 150W ushio 10K MH + 4x T5HO (ATI actinic, ATI blue plus, UVL super actinic, aqua science 22,000K)

im liking this setup alot better, its not as blue and definitely brighter, to the point that my blueberry cheese cake monti is bleaching at the bottom of the tank. I think the corals are still adjusting to the change in lighting but the change doesnt look bad. I'll let the photos do the talking, theres less floresence but i see an increase in color pigment with only a few days use.
