imisky's 30G custom system

Well I broke my leg again, so its back to bombing the forums!

Hows the tank?

The tanks doing great, I was a little busy with design competitions and let the tank slip a little. Some corals did brown out but its a matter of time until it colors back up.

I did get a new coral, a miniture colony of a 20K lokani which is doing extremely well. Deep purple with neon green polyps

:thumbsup:awesome. looking good as ever

thanks man

Its been a while but heres an update for those following the tread.

All the corals are doing decently well, alot of them has browned out due to the hectic design competition 2 months i had a while ago and is finally recovering at a fast rate might i add. While some corals didnt care about the alk being at 5 some did, esp my bigger colonies. The smaller frags kept growing at a super fast rate.

Im thinking about adding some T5s onto my tank, not that im not satified with the growth and colors from the LEDs. In fact both color and growth has been great, but i just cant add anymore LEDs onto the tank with ease. So im going to be fabricating a holder semi like the old one i had for some T5 strips. I have no idea if I actually need the extra light but imo extra PAR has never hurt any coral as long as they are introduced to it properly.

So heres some photos, enjoy them while i come up with a T5 solution and I'll post that up once im done.

Heres a little for everyone to look at

the good old saying of picture are worth a thousand words, then what is a video worth. Its this phrase that inspired me to make this video, and plus a little bit of desire to produce something other than photography for everyone to enjoy.

In the video you guys will probably realize that the light is a little different. This was the project that I had been working on to add 4x T5HO onto the system.

Hope you guys enjoy the video as much as I did in making it.

got something interesting for you guys to look at today. so last night i came home looked into my tank and found it looking a little odd....all the SPS were closed and looked semi stressed....or so I thought but this is what i found.
enjoy.

I just feel naughty watchin that! lol I had a similar feeling watching several stomatella do the same thing in my fuge!

haha I kind of felt the same but it was really entertaining at the same time. Its weird because I had a cowrie sit on clutches of eggs to protect and hatch. Ive also seen stomatellas spawn but mostly white clouds (sperm i assume). Ive also seen SPS spawn eggs and sperm but Ive never seen a cowrie release eggs like an SPS which made it more interesting.

reviving this thread from the grave! It really has been a long time since I last upgdated this build. I'll keep it simple with a tank shots and a growth difference of my ponape in the last year.

for those who worry about the yellow tang, he is leaving as soon as I can catch him, I'll miss him but it has to be done, the tank is now too small for him

Growth and coloration look good!

Didn't you add T5's a while back? I like the hybrid lighting!

Im quite amazed at the growth speed of SPS, we make them sound like they grow slow.

Yup I added the T5s back in, its been roughly 6-7 months I would guess that I've had the T5s and man do they make a difference.

Its been over a year, and man has the tank grown in. Without a comparison photo I would have never known how much grew. But heres a comparison of Nov.1 2011 to Nov.12, 2012 (today).

I removed the black background...well its not 100% removed yet, but man does it make the tank feel bigger and brighter.

The corals have grown in well and there hasnt been any new introduction in terms of corals to the tank. For now Im just letting cruise along on autopilot

nice! still have the yellow tang eh... LOL He sees you coming from a mile away "can't catch me"

its exactly as you describe it...Ive tried many things to catch him so i can trade him in...I think draining the tank is the only way at this point

yup Im still running biopellets, I made a custom pellet tower with a friend and it works pretty amazing and costed without the maxijet about $20

Wow dude this tank looks awesome. I wish you did the Reef Update Nov, 5 2012 video was recorded in hd like one of your other videos. Looks so nice grown in. :)

I would like to see this BP tower pls

I'll get a better photo/ video for you later tonight. Its fairly simply but tall, so you will need some height in your sump to make one.

Here is what it looks like in action when I first installe it.

I'll have to get to another one of those videos. Currently working on a motorized dolly so I can do some simply long duration time lapses :) But that might take a while to complete

cool, Interesting that you use 3D printing for some handy custom parts! very cool

Looks like you could get away with a shorter tube... or no? how much BP are you running?

you could probably get away with a much shorter tube. There is a bit of redundancy added into the length for incase a pellet decides to go flying, it will most likely not make it out of the tube before falling back down.

I would say, in total I am running roughly 150g, perhaps even less now that alot has dissolved away. I have not topped it off since that video was taken in April.

Where did you get the acrylic tube?
