In need of a good QT protocol

So if I didn't use bleach does that mean my QT could possibly still have some trace of a parasite? The tank itself was definitely dry for over 48hrs. The filter and media was rinsed in hot tap water and then allowed to dry for a day and then soaked it in vinegar for a day

completely dry for 24 hours is all it takes, no need for the other stuff. but no harm in using bleach regardless. for years i have only done that drying treatment and have yet to see it fail. i just dont have time to treat with anything more when research clearly states it as unnecessary; and I let it go nearly 72 hours anyway.

media is potentially a problem though given all the nooks and crannies and most medias ability to absorb water and hold it for long periods. cysts could very well have made their way into it. Would vinegar potentially fix that with 24 hours soaking? I'm not sure, but the safest bet is to just throw all that away when doing TTM, as isn't necessary anyway.

understood for tank transfer but this QT is my permanent quarantine, not a TTM tank so that is the media i am talking about and trying to cycle again. The media in question is ceramic rings

Also, do your transfer at the crack of dawn: ich drops off a fish as the lights go out. Hopefully it gets trapped in the floss filter: you toss the floss (see my note today on pot filters) and move the fish into new tank, new filter. And keep at it. Read the note in Fish Disease.

Do you have a link to a study that says that ich falls off a fish at night? This keeps being repeated on threads but I have never found an article/research paper that says they know exactly what time of day they drop off the fish. It's actually the tomonts that hatch during the night (which we don't have to worry about, those are what stay behind attached to the tank/surfaces). As far as I can tell it doesn't matter what time of day you do the transfer as long as it's every three days.

Parasites are killed if they are subjected to heat of at least 104 degrees for an hour. You could put them in your oven on the lowest setting if you really want to save them.
