In tears today :sad1:

awestruck

My red LTA (that I showed off to everyone here a couple weeks ago) moved just a tiny bit, and got stung by some palys all last night. It's dead.

Thanks, me too. It was the only animal in tank that I truly loved. And, I promised Dr. Mac's store that I would take great care of it...

Yes, its innards were completely out; it was falling apart and I had to take it out of the tank. I'm so upset I'm feeling that maybe it's time for me to take a break from reefing.

Oh crap, the mid-life reef crisis!I know what you feel.

Look at reef keeping like this:

Keeping reefs is like walking on a treadmill, you cant walk on the treadmill your wholelife with out stubbling, its the same thing with reef keeping.

Really sorry to hear about this.

But, I would be surprised if getting stung by the "palys" was the sole cause of its death. I have a feeling it was already on its way out, and this just pushed it over the edge.

I have had several anemones (( LTAs, BTAs, and Haddonis )) come into contact with both "zoas" and "palys", and in each case the anemone won.

Ya,I havent ever heard of a Paly killing and Anemone.Actully,my LTA is right by a patch of zoas that he comes in contact with every time the wave come round.

clowns,

Yes, maybe it is a crisis state of mind. But, I'm still pretty teary-eyed. I too have a hard time thinking the palys killed it.

Todd,

I think it's crazy too to believe the palys stung it enough to kill it. But, I'll tell you God's truth: Friday it was totally beautiful, firmly planted in the sand, fully open, mouth closed, bright color, gently moving in the current, and sticky as can be. There is only one other thing I can think of which I didn't even consider last night since I was so upset, and that's that a snail was caught in its foot. But whatever, I'm feeling pretty bad right now.

1crazy,

Yes, it does suck.

Get another nem and keep chuggin'. They are simple creatures and there are plenty of them these days thanks to reefers like us who didn't give up. Losing some stock along the is how we bump along the dimly lit walls of the learning hallway ; )

Thanks Marineflake,

You know, I have been nursing a bleached lta and it's doing quite well. Nothing affected it; it's fine and so is everything else in my tank---just the red lta. :(
