I guess those anthias didn't last long

To anyone looking to get a powder blue tang, I highly recommend getting one of the Maldive specimens from LiveAquaria. Mine was purchased for me as a Christmas present 2 years ago. It came in flawless, and has remained flawless!

I just received three blotched anthias this am. I have spoken with two people at F&S about this. I can provide order # if needed.
While I have been extremely happy with F&S in past and customer service always fantastic, I had a problem this time.
The fish were packed well in large bags. They showed up VERY cold water temp in low 60's.
They were shipped from Wisconsin, where snow on ground, with NO heat packs. I am extremely unhappy at this point. Fish looked terrible, still alive but barely. I acclimated a long time. Two seem to be improving, one just swimming on surface and trying to get below (swim bladder problem), seems quite distended.

Three questions:
1. What are you going to do about my case? The stress these poor fish went through. Who knows how this will effect long term survival.

2. What to do about the poor fish with the obvious swim bladder problem?

Such beautiful fish, I was looking forward to receiving. Besides the apparent lack of care in packing of a wonderful live delicate fish, there is the approx $600 cost.

I have been a loyal and faithful customer that always gives glowing recommendations. What are you going to do to make this better (regardless, not much to do for the fish, but hope.

I have a wonderful mystery wrasse from you from a couple of months back (shipped with a heat pack) doing so well.

DocMark,

Thank you for your post. We are sorry to hear that your recent order was received in unsatisfactory condition. The omission of heat packs during this time of year is unusual, and does not reflect the standards we use in shipping packages. Your concern regarding the heat packs has been forwarded to our management.

If you would please PM us with your customer and order information, we would be happy to look further into this matter for you.

Dr. Wilson,

I would like to personally apologize for the problems you have experienced with your recent purchase from LiveAquaria. I understand how frustrating this situation can be, and can assure you that we will take whatever action is needed to replace these fish if the fail to make the transition into your aquarium.

I can also assure you that it is neither our intention nor policy to forgo heat packs on your recent order, or any other order leaving our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility from Rhinelander Wisconsin during this time of year, regardless of the final destination.

Fulfillment at our facility involves numerous steps in the pick, pack, and ship process. With each step there are standard procedures in place to ensure every order is accurately fulfilled, bagged and boxed properly, then manifested accurately so that the package's final destination is correct. With all three major steps in this process there are staff in place to double check each order for accuracy and proper packaging. Unfortunately with your recent order, it’s evident that an error was made by some of the staff, who did not follow the proper procedures that are in place. Situations such as this are very unfortunate, as every one of our employee’s works diligently with care and concern for all of the animals we bring into and ship out of our facility. I will promptly address this issue with the facility Supervisor and Operations Manager so that we can review what happened and take the appropriate steps so that this kind of mistake does not happen again in the future.

From all of my experience in the fish industry, during certain months of the year, inbound shipments of fish can arrive with water temperatures in the low to mid sixties. This is actually much better on the animals than exposure to elevated temperatures in the high 80's to low 90's. When this happens the fishes metabolism slowly decreases as the water temperature gradually declines, and it is not uncommon for any fish to look much different when the package is first opened. Thank you very much for taking the extra time acclimating these fish as in most circumstances when fish are acclimated back up to temperature slowly by floating the unopened bags in the aquarium water first, then are drip acclimated for water chemistry, a healthy fish should settle in well within 24-36 hours. Please give them some time, as I am confident they will be ok.

Just in case these fish do not settle in well, I have set aside three identical Holanthias borbonius and have them tagged with your name and customer number. I will hold these fish for the next two months until the end of January, just in case you experience a problem.

It is not uncommon for deepwater Basslets, Wrasse, or Anthias to gulp air at the surface during transit, which will affect the fishes’ equilibrium when first introduced into the aquarium. I am confident that this fish will behave normally once he settles in during the next 24-36 hours, as none of these Anthias showed any signs of swim bladder problems while in our care.

Your complete satisfaction is very important to all of us at Drs. Foster and Smith/LiveAquaria, and we stand behind everything we sell. I can assure you once again that in the unfortunate event the fish do not make the transition into your aquarium; we will replace them at no additional charge to you. Please keep us posted, and feel free to contact us at any time with questions or concerns.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for the problem you experienced with this order.

Regards,
