info on when a black out will occur

Just left a meeting here at work and had a guy in there tell me something interesting about the power outages. they are basically set up like the jury lottery that they use for calling you to go to court for jury duty.

If you go to the power company website, at least the one here in SoCal does it, you will see where they have assigned a number to your area. each day, a number is drawn for that day. If they need to do a black out that day, then the area with that coorsponding number will be the area of the black out.

This will give you a closer way to monitor when you might have a black out. Hope this helps.

The number of your area is on your bill, and if you go to your local power company's web site, it will tell you how to find it on your bill and what the next block of numbers is. I know with SCE, at least, the next numbers are specified in sequence and stay that way until the next rotating outage, and then the next sequence of number is pulled. So you don't have to keep checking back.

If you are in the same electrical block as a hospital or fire station, you'll never get put in an outage rotation.

I don't think LA DWP has it. When I lived in a DWP area for 20 some odd yrs, I did not experience one rolling black out. I did however live near a police station which was about 5 blocks from me at the time so I'm not sure if we were in the same grid as they were.

The SCE bill shows my shop is N001 and exempt. I think they know a good thing when they see it and shutting me off would cost them money. :lol:

Anyone else see those signs on the freeway, the Amber Alert signs, that are saying "Conserve energy, Flex your power" or something like that? Dont you think thats a little ironic that its taking electricty to have all those signs lit up? I just thought that was funny.

I love Glendale! No rolling black outs here. Glendale is not part of that system. We have pleanty of power for all in the city. This according to glendale water and powers web site. Although they do insist on saving energy.

actually it does not all come from the same place:rollface:

the city of Glendale, which is actually its own city, has its own power plant. So in essense, the city council of glendale can snap their fingers and create electricity.:rollface:

I hate to break it to you, but muni utilities are not necessarily exempt. I lived in the SMUD district when we had the rolling blackouts before (2002?), and SMUD had to participate when CA ISO demanded blackouts, even though we had plenty of power. Instead, we had to shut down and start selling power to other utilities. Grrrrrr.

the glendale water and power website says they are not subject to ISO at all and there are no rolling black outs. I get the impression that even some muni's may be subject to ISO, but not Glendale

Maybe I'm lucky then. We have two power plants here in our area AND I have a fire station a couple of blocks down the road from me. So far So good as I haven't lost any power yet.
