Informal get together for locals

That was fun. It's been a while since I've chatted like that. Next time, more people need to show!!!!
 
yep have a great time - yes a few people are now saying "next time" - I think we als0 had a great idea to have it at somebodies home each time each month it should be at a new place until we establish a base of people then we can deal with that at that time. I volunteer, Jesse also said he can to it at has place. so need every bodies input = chime in for a date in 3-4 weeks people.

Dawn- glad to hear the Colt is doing well and my PH is 8.1 - figured it was pretty good for the corals and the fish to be thriving. And yes I switched to IO - purple top - I think that is the "reef" formula. Still have Reef crystals as well. But since i have no way of determining the pH - I am not sure what to do. I did look at my Reef2go order and it did not come int he order - a BO is hand written next to it in the order list - I assume it means "Backordered" - Of course they have not emailed me about how to proceed or a time frame. So, wont order anything from them again. The livestock was "ok" the hermits were tiny and one Conch was DOA.
 
For others just seeing the thread and PM'ing me -please note:

The only people that responded for this "get together" were in this area ( done in very short notice) - so that is where we met. Next "get together" is not yet planned and location is also not set. Feel free to post and idea fro next location. Jesse, Dawn and myself are just trying to do something to get to locals together to share experience, have a few laughs, tell reef stories, etc. - totally informal , moving locations, etc. the official PMASI seems totally inactive- so figured we could at least get together once in a while until the official PMASI website gets fixed and the club gets up on its feet again. I have no issue having next "get together" much closer to you - where ever that may be in the Pittsburgh area , then maybe we go to South Hills area , or Monroeville, etc. this way no one is always driving much longer than others. If we only get together once a month or so - and it is a moving location - that is not so bad when someone has to drive 45 minutes one way in one month and then 10 minutes the next month - also people close to each other can car pool. At least it is an attempt to make new friends, help others, etc.

That sounds like a good idea Ted. Switching areas and carpooling is the fairest way to encourage all of us from the surrounding areas to be involved.
 
Hey all, sorry I couldn't make it, it was a busy day. But wanted to mention, someone came by to look at my 55 on Saturdsy and mentioned that the pmasi does still meet. Possibly not a large turnout, but it is still going . I saw they met at the zoo last month.

Just an FYI :)
 
yes, but activity of website is low. I want to rejoin and I think our "get togethers" will promote the club. The website is down currently ( last time checked= yesterday) to see when is the next meeting. I could not make the date of the Zoo visit- Bummer.
 
Absolutely, I agree they are a great idea. I want to rejoin too, but wanted to be sure there wa still something going on first.

I like the idea of being able to meet more frequently
 
I agree about the get together a! They will be great! I will def. be rejoining the club once the website and meeting get back up and running.
 
Somewhere with beer would be great. I know in the past for our car meet the waterfront has been a good location. Fairly central and with plenty of options for food and drink.
 
waterfront= station square or Lowe's movie theater waterfront? How is your move going - cant wait for the frags. we need to chose a specific place- with adult beverages for those wishing to indulge.

Either of those is fine at about say 4 pm on the second or third Saturday afternoon? Opinions or alternatives people?
 
Waterfront is where Lowes and Dave and busters is.

Move is going well so far. We're moving all the furniture next weekend.

I'm still trying to get the new tank to cycle. It is taking far longer than I had anticipated, even with regular doses of sand and sponges from the origin tank and about 43 gallons of different probiotic compounds.
 
i've been dosing Dr. Tim's ammonium chloride solution to get the ammonia spike going. it finally went down about three days ago and the nitrites shot up, so it's going, just not nearly fast enough for my liking. i think this weekend i am going to bring over some substantial chunks of rock from the old tank.

there will eventually be about another 90 pounds or so of rock from my current tank in there as well, but that's the basic structure. i got cyano and diatoms covering everything pretty good. won't be long now.
 
I was lucky _ I think my diatoms left in about a week and never really got Cyano initially. However, I just noticed - but have just a few dots and a 1 inch patch in the middle of the tank on the sand bed- I think I do not have enough flow in that place.
