Injured Clownfish, help

My female ocellaris clown accidentally got sucked into power head intake over the weekends:( Luckily, I was there and immediately released her. I've been watching her closely then. She was hiding and now she has come out but not eating.

She now has small white patches and blood streaks over the part of her body that got sucked, I guess it's the scratches. What should I do? Put her in a hospital tank and treat her or just leave her for now and see how it goes? What medication can I use to treat the wound?

Thanks.

A hospital tank wouldn't be a bad move. Maracyn is a broadspectrum antibiotic that would head off infection. She might get over it on her own---depends on how bad.

BUT---if you qt a clown away from his nem, he will dive for it on his return, and if treatment has removed his slime coat, he will be stung to death: it's very sad. So be careful to wall him off with eggcrate from any access to his nem for a day or so after his return to the tank, so he will go slowly and not rush to enter where he is not safe.

sk8r,

Thanks for your advice. What is nem? The anemone? There are two anemones in the tank but the clowns are not hosting in them.....

She looked scared and stressed now. I will see how her wounds look like tomorrow and decide what's next.

If not hosting at least she is not in danger of going in and getting stung: that is the worst danger. If you see any white slime, white film, or raised swelling by tomorrow, I'd get her to qt and treat as a precaution. Blood and bruising is not a great problem, but the appearance of the slime and whiteness often indicates infection. They're pretty tough little fish given good water, so hopefully she will recover. Stick a sponge or floss cover on that intake. They are capable of doing it twice.

I've moved the powerhead so that its intake is very close to the glass and the fish can't get it for sure.

If I dose the maracyn directly into the tank, will it kill the anemones or other soft corals?

makes sense, thanks.

ykh....i came home to find my clown in a filter trap (2nd compartment of a biocube) can you explain how the lecions look on the fish b/c i dont know if whats on mine is a disease or just scratches or something?

Well, there's an intake pipe marking on my clowns, so I know the exact area to look for the injury.

You might want to take some pics and post it here so people can take a look at it.
