I am interested in Pentair filter AF-93. What is the minimum flow rate for it? Much pressure does it take to push water through? Can it be hung upside down like connected to my output from an ASM's gate valve mod output? Because there is not enough height under the tank stand for it to point up.

Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry, looking over the units instructions there is no mention of a minimum flow rate that the filter requires. The unit is made to be used upright for an aquarium up to 100 gallons. The filter can be plumbed in line with an existing return line with either PVC or flexible tubing ( flexible tubing will require barb fittings found here http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~plumbing_parts_fittings_hose_barb_hosebarb.html)

I do not recommend installing the filter upside down to a ASM gate valve Mod. the filter will reguire some pressure from a water pump to properly function The Mag Drive 9.5 is a great pump for this unit http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~DN1127.html

Hi,

Thanks for your inquiry, the 0-30 PSI/Bar Dial Pressure Gauge indicates when to clean cartridge, when pressure builds in the canister. The pictures you see one our website regarding the cartridges is a generic picture from the manufacturer.
The difference between the cartridges is RB5711 is a Combination cartridge in which you can add filter media ( carbon) inside the tube also the outer pleat is replaceable. The RB5731 does not have the same capability, pleats are not replaceable and you are also not able to add filter media to it.

Please feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have.

Well look at it this way, passenger car tires can be inflated at 30 psi. I don't think there is an aquarium pump that can pump that much.

Okay, back to the AF-93. Should it be on the intake or output side of the return pump?

And what is the inside diameter and outside diameter of the input on the AF-93?

Hi,

The unit should be placed on the output side of the return pump.

The Af-93 has an inlet size of 1 3/4 ID and an outlet size of 1 1/2 ID,( The unit itself is clearly marked with "in and out") it also comes with FPT Slip adapters for 3/4 inch MPT. These are included in the package.
I've included the owners manual for your reference. http://www.marinedepot.com/IMD/UserManuals/RB5131.pdf

I hope this information is helpful
