My mife and I went out and did a couple of dives today. It was a great day diving and on the water. I wanted to take 2 samples but as always I forgot my water bottle on our 1st dive.

These are the water parameters in the Gulf at 23 miles WNW from Shell island at water depth @ 65ft.

Sal. 1.026
Alk 2.86
kh 8
ca 410
NO3 undetectable
Mg 1350 surpirsed the crap out of me!
PH 8.2 @ the time of testing several hours later
PO undetectable

I am going to start taking samples at every dive location and log them.

wow im kind of suprised on the low alk,i figured it would be higher.what did you see coral wise on the dives?anything interesting?

Chris, I was also but, it is very close to natural sea water ALK 2.90 I am still researching the fish and corals that we have observed and I will list them shortly.

Laz, we went to the 50ft horizontal ledge and ledge12 about 4.63 miles @ 143 degrees from the blackthorn.

Chirs, I have tried to find some kind of references on tropicals and corals of the Gulf but found nothing of any help.

This Is what I believed we saw

Cowfish
Scorpion fish
Groupers
Worm fish or golbies: hovering over the sand bed
Sunshine damsel: yellow and blue
Juvenile spotted drum
large yellow sea cucumber
starfish
arrow crabs
tons of large jelly fish

The wife and I saw two of these fish in separate locations they were solid yellow looked like a wrasse and when we got really close they darted into the sand bed. No
apparent barrow was in the area were they vanished.
There are a few others they I could not indentfy or locate information. If anyone has any info or know where to get a
good referenced on tropicals of the Gulf please Give me a PM.

I have never dove any of these location and both were hard bottom with small ledges covered with sand. There was red slim everywhere. Verious colors and shapes of Gorgonians where brusting threw the sand along with sponges, flower anemones on the exposed rocks, cup and verious other species of hard corals.

I need to get a case for my camera but that is almost as much as the new tank I want :D Now Laz...I can use a donation:lol:

a case for a camera cost as much as your new tank, what kind of camera is it, and what size is the new tank, it must be small if it cost as much as the new tank, lol. those camera under water cases are exsp.,

Sounds like you had a good time. I have always wanted to get certified. How is the visibility in the gulf?

SI have always wanted to get certified.

So have I. There is a guy here at school that certifies people and has all of the equipment. Maybe we can 1 day get a group together and all get certified. I think it needs to be 6 people. THEN...

we need to start bribing Hawkster and the others who go out to take us out!!! :) I've always wanted to dive.

How clear is it out there? I'd love to see some pics :D

Hmm I might be interested in the group thing on diving. If you find anymore about it please let me know. Ill try to be one of the 6 needed.

WOW didn't expect this response. Let me get details with him and find a way that proximity will work for all of us the best. I'm all excited. Give me a couple days and I'll try to get it together :) SWEET!
