Install check valve

Installed a reef safe 1 lb check valve (clear) on inlet side (in the sump) of my return pump. I know it can reduce flow but not concerned with the reduction. I know these have tendency to fail but don't they usually fail in open position? My sump has the capacity I only wanted the check valve to slow the storm when my pump restarts from standby mode for feeding. Am I missing something or is this install acceptable? Placing it on the inlet side gave the least amount of air void on the restart and reduced the bubble storm.

Well, first if you want one on there, they should go on the output side of the pump. Restricting the intake can damage the pump.

Secondly, why are some bubbles on restart even a concern?

Sounds feasible to me. Especially if it is just bubbles you are worried about and as long as your sump can handle the possible failure. Also the main reason they fail is due to particulates or algae building up in the valve itself causing it to be stuck open. If you clean when you see or feel that it is affecting things you should never have a total failure of it. Even so as long as your sump can handle the backflow capacity-wise, it wouldn't matter if it failed. lol.

Thanks all. Restarting a pump with 14 ft of head does not produce "some" bubbles it is an entire tank full. Also the pump can have difficulty re-priming itself. So far has had significant improvement on the restarts.
