Dr. Smith figured they probably took hold in American waters after being imported by wholesalers in Florida, kept in outdoor pools and then washed into the ocean by a hurricane.

True or not, good or bad -- for some reason that statement strikes me as LOL funny. I just have this Nemo-esque picture of a big batch of lionfish setting out for the open sea to freedom.
