Interruptus are here...

BANG!!! I pulled the trigger! Thanks to John who I'm hoping is right and also hooked it up with a good deal! Pics to follow :)

How much did you pay for this fine angel?
And how come I missed this thread to begin with?!
Anyway, John is usually right on Angels..
Congrats!

Sincerely,
Matthew

Thanks! I talked them down to $2000 a piece if I bought both. I thought it was a pretty good deal considering it was a $1000 off the original price. I'll get them on Tuesday. I'll be praying they're not nippers until then!

Can't wait to see pics :D

so cool...also looking forward to seeing pics...glad the 2 are going to stay together..

I do agree that it is sweet they are both going to live together, but I can almost assuredly tell you that they are currently not together anyway. DD doesn't keep pairs of anything together really. Also, I believe it was stated that the fish weren't a "pair" to begin with. I guess they will get to grow into a pair though considering their small size.

now buy two of frank's new hybrid...you may create first interrupta hybrid pair..:crazy1:...not that they would spawn though...

They look tiny. Easy to pair tiny Centropyge angels... I wouldn't sweat it if I was the buyer. Maybe use an acclimation box for the smaller one, so dominance is easily settled.

No sweat... happy to help!

For the record in December only three of these were imported... I introduced my good friends Kevin Kohen (Director of Liveaquaria and the DD) and Koji Wada (owner of Blue Harbor in Japan) to eachother a few MACNA ago... some nice Japanese fish have since come. I was at Liveaquaria in Wisconsin the day the shipment arrived... to see three little interrupta was a sight! This subtropical species is a seasonal spawner and the last few years have not resulted in good drops of juvies... this year was a good one for the first time in years and so the US for the first time in forever saw juvies...

Since this shipment Quality Marine got two juveniles in... I was in LA a couple of weeks ago and visted QM and saw them... many of the the VERY experienced staff there had never seen juvies like this before... this is a treat! I am meeting up with Koji in Japan again this summer for a few days to dive coastal Japan... with hopes of seeing this species and many others... :) Just like Kevin from Liveaquaria, Koji is a good man that shares our passion and runs a very good business... here's a photo of us on a trip we took to beautiful Kyoto, Japan a few years back to track down the Genicanthus personatus we caught in Hawaii years back... the gentleman there in Kyoto had an angelfish collection that included the largest wild male Centropyge debelius and C. resplendens I'd ever seen... and the only hybrid coral beauty/ multicolor angel I'd ever seen...

Oh, and one thing I posted in one of my recent threads... for all in terms of the proper scientific name for the Japanese Pygmy Angel... it is Centropyge interrupta, and not Centropyge interruptus. Years ago it was realized that the genus Centropyge was feminine and not masculine, resulting in SOME of the -us species being changed to -a (for many reasons most people do not care about except nuts like me)... Interrupta got changed because it is a descriptive adjective...

Congrats again Wayne!!!!!!

Copps

+1! Congrats on a great catch Wayne! A bit pricey for me, but you probably actually got a great deal.
Now get them busy pairing up. LOL

Sincerely,
Matthew

To think I sometimes complain that there are some things in the States that I can't get here! I see C.interrupta from time to time in LFS here, but always at a price way above my level. I'm not quite as serious a hobbiest as some people on here, so it's not going to be an option for me.

Next time I'm in Osaka, I'm planning to visit Blue Harbor. Quite apart from their excellent fish selection, their website shows they're one of the few fish stores here to take SPS ID seriously as well, rather than just selling everything as "SPS".

Looking forward to some of the pics of the pair (edit: potential "pair")!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Now I wonder if Frank would share his secrets in how to breed and rear the Interrupta brood. I know it would be an exercise in futility for me, but man would it be fun trying!

you may get the outline if you read his experiences written in RCT webpage, but i think whole process is trade secret....particularly the details of foods and water chemistry for larval stages...

there are plenty of Ichthyologist working on universities and projects...very few manage to get the whole pictures of a fish species breeding and none(baring Matt Wittenrich perhaps) comes close to Frank's achievements....

so don't get your hopes up regarding breeding and just enjoy the fish..
