Introducing a small baby clown to a larger juvenile's tank.

Ok, what is the general consensus among clown keepers on the precautions that need to be taken when introducing a small baby ocellaris (1" at most) to a larger juvenile ocellaris (maybe 1 3/4")?

I have heard that sometimes it is better to have this wider spread so that the new clown submits right away. My current clown doesn't seem too aggressive.

Thoughts on what might happen, and what to watch for if I do this?

Thanks,
Angela

Hi.. in my nano, i had an orange ocelaris, i tried to introduced a B&W one, they were both alright after 2 months i don't understand why the bigger one ( orange) is always putting the black on apart into the corner fighting with it.
i didn't understand very well why..

I would take the littler clown & insert it carefully into the water & let them sort things out. :D Especially with such a size difference I don't think you'll have a problem - I mean there will be some issues to sort out, but no one will get killed. I'm assuming you have a few hiding places & rocks in your tank. :)

Not sure what your question was -
But yes there will be no bickering over who will be boss & probably less time to spawning. If the juveniles take a long time to sort out who will be female, it will take longer for them to get down to business.

Personally I think there is nothing cuter than a couple of bickering oscellaris :fish1:

Hi Angel,

I guess it wasn't such a well phrased question. I suppose I just wanted to hear of others who may have done this, or if this size difference was too dramatic. Signs maybe to look out for of when to seperate if it comes to that, etc.

It looks like the little one is actually a little more than an inch, but still much smaller than the other. I am acclimating him now and will release him shortly.

AJF, I am also introducting a black ocellaris (wild caught Australian) to an orange ocellaris of unknown origin. I will post pictures tomorrow...

:)

WOW!!

Instantly the new black ocellaris introduced himself to the orange AND went right into the RBTA!!

My orange ocellaris goes in only the outer tentacles of RBTA. The black one just cuddles it everywhere. I am SO thrilled!!!

YAY!

Ok, I just couldn't wait

Ok, I just couldn't wait

Here are some pictures of my ocellaris that are going to pair (yep, i'm just so sure because they seem to love each other and they both are hanging together in the anemone:D)

Angela, Hi :) I didn't even notice it was you. Anyone with fish coming out their cuke's wazoo doesn't need advice on pairing oscellaris. But it's no fun to go it alone..

I'm disappointed - no bickering --- that said, the only thing more fun than watching them argue is watching them luxuriate in an anemone

What a treat to get the photos of the recent pair! I also like your door knob tank decoration :D

Congrats!

Hi there, yeah, well I may be good at creating fish out of thin- err- cuke-butts;) But, I'm no magician, really, lol!!

I know, I expected bickering, too. But, I am guessing the size difference was so great that they both just knew their place and made peace with it. :)

It is great watching them in the anemone! Every now and then the larger one will chase the smaller a little, but the little one knows when to move and then just goes back. My larger one is just absolutely freaking out in the anemone; wiggling, cuddling, disappearing and coming back out. I am so thrilled! I wish I could take them with me and watch them all day!

I also like your door knob tank decoration :D

Thanks. I like to be original;) :D

Best,
Angela

Thanks, AJF.

Too bad it didn't work with your pair. I'd sell the second clown and try an even smaller one next time maybe?
