introducing my 870gal tank (pics ahead)

Hi all,
thanks again.
Well, the clams ;-), the big one (both T.maxima) had some polyps growing on it, so I removed
them and the clam is in the fragtank to see if they're all gone.
Here in Germany it's difficult to buy bigger T. maxima, the usual size is around 5cm (2").
So this (small) maxima is kinda frag, because it'll have to grow a lot bigger, before I can drop
it in the tank, not loosing it. :-).
Best,
Ralf

AMAZING

AMAZING

Ralfp,

Just one word, AMAZING.

Is it possible for you to take a picture or to better explain the "Silicone joints covered with glasbars" ?

I would like to add this feature into my new glass tank.

One more Q, How thick is the glass? And if you can explian some more on the glass construction, bracing etc.

Tanks a lot

Hi all,
thanks so much again.
Welcome Miguel!

Bart,
what I use for sand cleaning/moving is:
fish: pair of Valenciennea muralis (goby), others possible like Amblygobius phalaena etc.
starfish: Archaster angulatus (I have 3 of them, digging through the sand)
cucumbers: 2 Holothuria edulis (pink) and 2 Holothuria atra (black) (originally 1 of each, they split themselves)
Well, the about 200 small (mainly red) hermits of course clean the sand-surface

br1200,
hmm, unfortunately I can't take pictures of the bars anymore (overgrown/covered with sand).
The bottom of the tank is made of three parts. All joints, were the glass-plates come together
(not only the bottom) were glued with silicone. 14 days later, about 1" wide glas-stripes were
glued (again with silicone) on all prior made joints to keep the critters away from them.
The viewing window is made of "VSG" glass, which was made of 2 x 10mm "Optiwhite" glass with 1mm foil between 'em.
(edit: so it's 21mm thick)
"Optiwhite" means glass with a reduced Ironoxide amount to reduce the green colour, normal glass has.
The surface of that window is hardened (however they do it *shrug*).
All other glass is 19mm chrystal-mirror-glass (word by word translation from german).
A frame made of powder-coated Aluminium sits on top of the tank.
(Rectangular frame with two additional braces (front to back)).
Frame and tank are stable enough to lie on, or even walk on it.

Thanks for asking!
Ralf
