Introducing....my new tank! 40g Breeder

I picked up a few goodies today that I couldn't walk away from. I went into the LFS to snag an actinic bulb and walked out with 3 new frags. Roman, you may recognize one of the chalices :). I replaced the one that died from the sting a little while back. I also nabbed a purple chalice with green eyes and a small acro frag. The acro is a little browned out, but it has some nice, florescent green on the base. Hopefully it grows out with the frag. I couldn't say no for $5.

The colors are pretty accurate in the first pic, but the corals are more in focus in the second. Imagine somewhere in the middle and that's pretty true to life

and one of the acro. It's not perfect, but it's close

and how about a FTS? This one is a few days old

Tank is looking good, jealous of some of your frags. Wish u could send some to me. Can't believe how much coralline u have growing, I am having issues with that right now of not having any grow. Keep the pics coming.

Thanks guys!

Roman, I'd love to stock up heavy but I'll be moving in around a year or so, so I don't want to rack up too much stuff unless it's dirt cheap. If I end up having to move to N Dakota or something I don't think I'll be able to haul all the livestock. I'll definitely make the trip with frags though!

zxanth, the coralline comes easy for some reason. I just keep the alk around 9.5'ish, the Ca above 400 and the Mg around 1300. I does seem to grow better in lower light (look under the overflow compared to elsewhere) so if you're burning a big light bank you could be bleaching it out to some degree.

So, there I was, changing my water when I noticed a dino break out...
Well, not as I was doing it, but definitely a few hours afterward. I did some digging and found mention of hydrogen peroxide treatment. I decided to give it a shot and began dosing 3 days ago at the recommended 10mL/gal. I'm dosing 4mL in an attempt to account for rock displacement and fuge volume. I noticed an immediate reduction of dinos and a nearly immediate improvement in water clarity. I'm not changing anything for a few days of dosing aside from the peroxide treatment to get some pseudo-scientific results. So far so good, with no negative coral or fish effects.

I also added a new nem. it's a RBTA with a green base. I got it for what I think is a good price and it looks great. I also added some captain america palys a week ago that are looking good too.

Mmmm, xmas presents? Keep updates on hydrogen peroxide treatment:wavehand:

Sort of. The CAs were also bought at a solid price. I paid a whopping $15 for 2 polyps. That was my treat for me a week or so before xmas. The BTA was the result of a xmas gift. My dad sent some cash for me and my wife, so he funded the LFS trip. The nem was a whole $30. I'll try to get some pics of the goodies soon.

Cool setup!

Cool setup!

My first tank was a 40 breeder and I am really thinking about going back to one I like the Idea of stacking multiple units like you did!

Man I have the same anenome as you. I was thinking it might not be a rbta but if your sure yours is then mine must be also!

They are so stringy looking compared to others I have seen.

I was at aquariums in edmond and she had some rose anemones that looked totally different than what we have and thats what got me wondering.

I will have to get some pics posted up of my tank

The stacked set up has its pros and cons. I would recommend careful plumbing planning and a filter sock in each lower tank. Also, make damn sure you don't have any power connections below any of the pipes. I had a little science experiment with saltwater and electricity one night, a few weeks ago. I only lost a plug end of a powerhead, but it could have sucked pretty bad.

The whole bubble tip thing comes and goes in these critters. You can have one all bubbly in one tank, move it to yours and it may or may no elongate. Mine seems to show signs of bulbed tentacles from time to time, but it's mostly stringy.
I've noticed my clarkiis taking notice to the nem. Hopefully I'll see the female dive in before too long. She's been living in a couple of yumas for the last couple of months.

I'm loving the red/green morph. I can't believe the store was only asking $30 for it. You can't even get a plain old greenish brown bta for that in most other stores around here.

It's kind of selective buying and a little of "wow, I can't pass that up!" There's a really good store down here that is run by a hobbiest-turned-owner who likes to sell stuff for less than it should cost. He buys cheap and passes it along to his customers. I just pop in now and again and see what he has in the frag tank. It does help that i'm low on room and don't want to add anymore acros until I get the red bugs thing worked out.

I do see more zoanthid buys in my future, but for my biocube. I think I'm going to stock it heavy with zoas and palys and toss a yellow headed jawfish, and maybe a firefish, in there.

Oh, the female clarkii set up shop in the BTA last night. She's loving it.

Hopefully that move will come in around a year or so. I"m stuck here until the end of August, then it's up to the Air Force when and where I go. AWACS will be at the top of my list though!

I love 40 breeders and I really like how you have the tank aquascaped. If I didnt get the rimless cube I would have gone with a 40 breeder.

Looks like you're doing an awesome job on picking up great looking corals on the cheap.

Here are a few new pics as of tonight. I'm still fighting the dinos, but have them largely subdued. Since the initial outbreak I've been doing a few thing different. I'm not topping off with kalkwasser, I dose hydrogen peroxide (seems to keep them at bay) and I'm running a very limited light schedule. I run a few days with actinics, a day or two with nothing and a day with full lighting. I don't have a real schedule I follow. I just adjust as I see the dinos come and go. I also siphon it out when I do waterchanges.

I upgraded skimmers. I modded an Eishopps PSK 100H to work in my sump. Josh hooked me up with a good price and it's working like a champ with a little work. It kicks the crap out of my modded coralife SS65.

And the latest pics...

My LFS let me bring in some of my dry rock and swap for some good, seeded stuff to introduce some new biodiversity in the tank. To my surprise, they swapped good LR for my good, but dry rock straight across. I expected them to give a little less since my was dead and dry. Of course I felt obligated to spend some money with them (well, not really, but I can't help myself if I stop into the store). They got a rock covered in giant palys in the other day and broke a frag off for me. It's just a single polpy, but it's a monster! Anyway, less stories and more pics..

Quite possibly! I have no idea how fast they grow. I've never shipped frags, but may entertain the thought if it grows out, especially if I move back to OKC. I found them for $40/head online somewhere, but they were definitely much cheaper at the store. Mine is a medium head too

Hey let's form a line here:D Paly is DaBomb. Very nice, do they have any more frags at LFS?
