iPad worthy of the hype?

I don't claim to be an expert on this but...

from what I've read about them, this picture sums it up for me:

I was thinking about getting one but I'm going to hold off until some user reviews come out. The first version of any product usually has some bugs and I'd rather wait until some of the bugs are worked out. For me it would probably replace the netbook that i use in the living room and take with me when I travel for work.

My money is on Steve Jobs and Apple putting out a great product. If the Ipad is nothing more than a large Iphone it's going to be a hit.

Morning Gary
All the tech guys I talk to says its just a big IPhone without the phone. Being an old guy I like the larger screen ,but for the money why wouldnt you buy a laptop instead. Guess we will see...Steve Jobs is not usually wrong....HAPPY Easter

I thinks your the only peanut in this gallery. ;)

IMO, save yourself some money and buy the iTouch or Kindle. Something tells me that this won't be around for very long. JMO

warning I am a apple zealot...

I think it will find a market. My GF only wants a laptop for email, FB and some browsing. Really thats all we use the current laptop for but find it hard to share it. So I am waiting out some real reviews on the iPad but can see getting one. Its no laptop, but it a big itouch/iphone and be nice to do much of what i do on my iphone on a larger screen.

I would much rather have a laptop. I think the iPad is just an iTouch on steroids. It won't be good for anything but surfing the net. At least a laptop provides a ton more functionality.

I can never see myself getting one.

The iPad will most likely be aimed at the corporate world. Full touch screen, bright, wireless capabilities, apps, online books. I don't believe many people will need much of anything for it. There is the iTouch,(iPhone without the phone), iPad(iPhone without the phone). Same thing different size. Great refresh rate as any Apple so people who read the online books won't have issues with their eyes. I would try it for a week before I would possibly buy it. On my reviews I give it a 7 outta 10. This score only because I love my iTouch but I don't think the iPad would fit well in my pocket while I'm going for a run.

It will definately have it's uses. The 3G version is due out at the end of the month so it really is basically a iPhone on steroids for that model. My wife doesn't do much online but surf, e-mail and that kind of thing so for her it would be perfect.

Although tablet computers have been around a while I believe the iPad to be a stepping stone to whatever is coming next. No clue what that might be but this will definately have it's niche.

i like my mini laptop. i'm not a big fan of buying into hype until i know someone who has it, likes it and doesn't put it on craigslist within the year. bottom line.

Re: iPad worthy of the hype?

i dont know i think its a good idea but lets hope its not just a big iphone. lets hope it does a little more than that. with only those iphone functions i thing people will loose interest fast.

I use my ipod touch mostly for quick browsing. Instant on, easy navigation... 100times better than any netbook imo. This gadget is right up my ally if I can pry it out of my wifes' hands. :-)

I will most likely get one after the craze dies down a bit.

ok, yikes...that guy is going to give me nightmares....not as bad as the poodle thing...but close....

I have an iphone and love it. The one thing that drives me nuts in the lack of Flash support. Some sites just don't work. I'll save you the details, just google iphone flash or ipad Flash.

For a second machine the house for casual browsing on the WiFi network I would get one - if it supported flash!

I like the idea of the iPad, but with a much lower price. When the 3G model comes down to $399, I'll buy one. Hopefully by then you will be able to multitask. I wouldn't be surprised if multitasking is available on the next iPhone later this summer.

The main problem with it is it doesn't fit in your pocket to use on the go. They need to make one about quarter of that in size.... oh wait, they did that first. So I don't get it, what is this thing for. So if its more of a computer than a pocket gadget, I will take my cheap netbook over it any day. At least that has a flit top so the screen doesn't get scratched.

Over sized/over priced Ipod touch... buy a laptop.
Personally, I won't be getting any of these "smart" devices until I can pay one price for network connectivity. Any of these devices should be useable as a network access point (when attached to a PC), but they just wont allow it because everyone's greedy. The technology is there. I'm not paying three different companies for the same service.
